Question on Final Fantasy XIV purchase

Hey guys, just a simple question: if I buy Final Fantasy XIV, can I activate it whenever I want? I mean, I buy it, then can I wait one or two weeks to create an account and activate the key I would get with my steam purchase or do the 30 days activate when I add the game on my steam library?

I think it's the first option, but better to ask

there is no limitation when you can activate your game,if its a Key/Gift
