Found this the other day. Are you excited or not? No poll because people hate them or big words... or charts...

What are you currently watching?

I'm glad people have made spamming socially acceptable ^^

I heard about it last week and decided im going to play the first two games (already played the third) and read the books. I can't wait to see who they cast as Geralt.

I also really like a lot of Netflix Originals

One of the only games that made me want to do every single side mission in it. To bad my computer couldn't handle it for to long. Fantastic game.

I did the same. Played the third and plan to play the first two. I'm reading the novels now. Remember to read the short stories also, it's a bit weird reading it the way it is but stick with it because it's worth it :3

Honestly the first game was my favourite, I highly recommend it. Granted I haven't quite finished 3 and only got half way through 2.

I'm currently doing the same (playing Wild Hunt without prior knowledge of W1 and W2) and was wondering if it gets confusing or you felt like you were missing out on some parts later on if you haven't played the first two ?

I felt a little lost in the beginning but after looking up lots of things for the "interrogation" before meeting the emperor of Nilfgard (savegame creator on console) I think I have a basic understanding of what's going on for now.

Yeah you'll feel a little lost throughout (especially at the beginning) because it's a direct sequel. I had to google a lot of the stuff, but you could also watch those Witcher 1 and 2 recaps if you don't mind spoilers for the first two games. I pretty much know everything just by google now :P

Thanks for your imput ;) I did watch one of the shorter recaps of W2 since my buddies told me it's more connected to Wild Hunt but I have to admit I don't remember much. Looking up all that stuff for the savegame creator really tempted me to give part 2 a go on PC but I'm afraid if I get sidetracked now Wild Hunt will just end up in my back log.

I'd say just continue with Wild Hunt. You can always replay it again if you like the first two games :)
As long as you know what a Witcher is and basic information like that, then you'll be fine past the first part of the game. You'll bump into a lot of characters Geralt already knows, but you'll get to know them again in Wild Hunt.

Just do the side missions to get more info on Geralt's character. Also the side missions are the best part.

Absolutely. Gameplaywise the game doesn't reinvent the wheel from what I can tell so far but it's just soo well written.
The gay hunter with the tragic origin story that helps you track the gryphon in White Orchid for example, is the perfect counter example for the infamous transgender NPC in Mass Effect Andromeda in my opinion :D

I can't find any confirmed information about it. I would prefer short stories, not novels. Better fit for a TV series.

I remember seeing something about it being based on the novels. I don't think it will be short stories. I think it will be a long running story

Sure, why not ? As long it's faithful to the books/games. The polish series were horrible I hear, but maybe with a big budget + a good cast, we'll have something decent.

Same, started reading the first book "The Last Wish" few days ago, and I am enjoying it very much, they add much more depth to characters and events from the games and enhance the experience, highly recommended. "The Lesser Evil", in which we learn how Geralt got the alias of "the Butcher of Blaviken" is hands down one of the best short stories I've ever read.

theyre going to fuck it up. I like that baginski is directing, he certainly has been with the franchise long enough and definitely understands not only the style but also how to film the characters and action, but a: its netflix (they have money to spend, but theyre not very good at well written content), and b: the showrunner gives me great concern. The witcher is my favourite game franchise, so maybe thats why i have very little faith that this show is going to deliver. It has the stench of 'easy quick cash-in' about it. netflix has seen that its massively popular, and they want to make some easy money by tapping in to the amazing work CDPR has done.

The Witcher 3 is my favourite game so I'm the same. However I feel like Netflix will be the best at making it. I feel like they've already made some amazing shows already and they get away with a lot not being on TV.

Iv heard the books are less focused on the monster side of Geralts trade than the games are. Seeing as the author who has a vendetta against the games is an executive producer they may steer away but hopefully Netflix pushes that abit. But the only person I could see as Geralt is Zach McGowan, who has shown interest, otherwise some unknown random.

Yes. It's focused more so on the politics and relationships.

Very concerned about this. This is Netflix after all. Not to mention that Sapkowski is on as "creative consultant" and he was useless and insulting as a consultant for the game series. Never thought I'd say this, but I wish the actual author of the witcher world would stay the hell out of it.

i'm not interested in Witcher per say, but my interest on Netflix as grown since they started producing their own shit
people who had a large choice of movies and series may dislike the new change, but from someone who cant get most of the library due to studios licence restrictions, i couldn't be happier...hopefully companies like nexflix will bring down some big screen collosal studios, death to the theaters

For me Movies tend to ruin things so I don't watch them. I read the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series as a child, so when the movie came out, I was excited, only to be met with disappointment. I haven't really watched any since.

After 10 hours of W3 gameplay I postponed, read 2500 pages and only then started game again. I didn't see the other way with this game. Game and story are amazing. Probably one of the best gameplay experiences during the last 10 years. I hope Netflix will do everything in the right way.

Seems that everybody is trying to find the next Game of Thrones, now that GoT is almost done. First Amazon announced their LoTR (may the Gods save us all), then Apple started looking for one and now Netflix is betting on The Witcher. Hey, as long as they put some effort into it and don't just assume that us nerds will just watch anything, and if that puts fantasy on top of everyone's list of genres to produce, I'm fine with it. I just hope it turns out better than 99% of all the game inspired movies so far but if I had to pick a story rich game, I would definitely have gone for this one so I get it.

I binged watched the second season of Dirk Gently the day it became available on Netflix. But I've been a Douglas Adams since I've read the Hitchiker's Guide and Dirk Gently's books. (I still have to get my hands on the short-lived 2010 series. I found out about it's existence when searching for info about a 3rd season of the newer series being made.)

I haven't seen Bored to death but it looks like it could be a fun watch.

Yes and no.

  • They are focusing on the books. Good.
  • The writer is helping int he series. Mixed, because if they are going to work on the books this is good, but he is bitter because he didn't trust in the game's success. Some people think the script can have something "against" the game's plot.
  • Apparently the writer's are marvel team B. Bad, very bad.
  • It's netflix and not HBO. I don't have anything against netflix, but as a (not die hard) fan of the franchise, I would love to see something more 'mature' and with a huge budget.

I also like Letho of Gulet, I think it's a great character and his weight on the 2nd game explains what 'The witcher world' is.

True fans re-watch the original polish series, they don't wait for some american/hollywoodish adaptation with some butter face witcher.
Also re-reading the books, of course in the original polish.

Also they will probably turn everything serious, grim and gloomy outside some few scenes with witcher friends (tm), coating the more lighthearted stories with Drama.

Of course! A true fan is only true reading the original. Also dying our hair white, obviously.
Its alright those who doesn't, understandable. But those aren't true fans.
I also have the magic signs tatooed in one arm and a shirtless Geralt on another, wich is only a plus. But at least knowing how to spell each sign is expected. Its like knowing klingon, basic stuff.
