I feel like steam should do something for every gamers birthday. Some of us only have steam to call family and it sucks. Everyone likes getting stuff and for our birthdays to be celebrated but most of us just have to keep living.it would be nice if steam even gave a small gesture of appreciation of us being here...

They change the look of the front page to be all festive, but I read your comment more as "Give me free stuff that I'm entitled to!" If not, sorry for the misinterpretation.

Basically that.

Nope, wasn't trying to be entitled. It would be nice if I got something but I did say everyone. I mean I'm not the only one with a bday today I just figured it would be a good idea. In all honesty everyone does like gifts and getting one from steam even a happy bday card would be nice.

http://www.enhancedsteam.com/

A browser addon with multiple functions to enhance your Steam experience.
However it adds quite a bit of loading time when I open my community inventory due to the many items :(

They do.
Your "Years of service" badge grows every year :P

That is actually a good point. That also brings up our steam level to allow for more things.

Why?

Being born wasn't your accomplishment, it was your mothers.

She's the one who should get something for giving you life...

That's awesome, because everybody had dota2 gifts in their inventory...

Anyway, the same thing happened to me with team fortress 2. I bought the game at full price, then it became free 2 play... And i don't even like the game. Q_Q

well if they do give us something just for being in steam for a certain amount of years, it could be easily exploited with dozens of idle accounts waiting for free items and such :/

Great point for exploitation. They already have out credit cards on file though so I guess they could create a system for one credit card in the system bday kind of thing.

Maybe do something like, have a certain number of value in your library and such, like the one you need to enter steamgifts.

good idea. Ill make 366 accounts for that.
Or giving this a scond thought maybe just a hundred. Im not that greedy.
They could do sth like that for ppl who buys sth or have high level, like 20 that means they are active. Free for everybody no, we cant have good things, there would be, what i wrote first.

Like I said in previous reply there would need to be a system in place to prevent that like a certain level and years active as well as games bought. No free loaders.

you're right, users with over 1000 games should get one random game per year :P

That is a bit steep. Id say like 300 or so for the first year and continue to rise. Hell that could even be a steam enthusiast program.

To the people being rude I applaud you for having so much money you would not enjoy a birthday wish from steam.

Not only would it be incredibly expensive for Steam to give you anything other than a "Happy Birthday!" or something like that, it would also require an enormous amount of work, and would be easily exploitable. It's not that someone wouldn't enjoy it, it's that there is no possible way it would ever happen, unless, as I said before, it was just a "Happy Birthday!" that showed up on your steam profile, in which case it has nothing whatsoever to do with "having so much money".

Like I said even that can change a persons outlook on the day. If they really wanted to be generous (which they dont) I'm sure they could implement something that could not be exploited.
edit: maybe even a coupon for one of your wishlist games.

Birthday systems can always be exploited as you can give any date and they don't really have any means to verify it.
Also, Steam is the property of Valve and Valve is a company, not a charity.
Also again: you get cards from your games and there are events at least twice a year where you can get cards. If you are really broke you should just sell those cards. It brings enough money to buy several smaller games or some bigger games every year, especially when they are discounted. I don't even remember when was the last time I bought anything with my credit card.

See you wouldnt be in the bracket then :p the bday can be exploited but if they did it correctly you would only be able to input the birth day once.that you would have to meet certain prerequisites to earn your bday gift.

I did not mean changing your birthday. Actually they could easily filter this by logging the changes or they could give presents for our Steam birthdays, the day we registered to steam instead of our real BDs.
What I meant was registering multiple accounts. As the gift we receive would probably be trade-able this could bring quite some profit on the long run with a small investment.

Yeah, it would be nice to receive something for your birthday on steam, from steam... Buuuut as some dude said before, some will just profit out of this, making several acounts. And it wouldn't be profitable for steam to give those games for free. :D

I think booster pack for people who are eligible to get one anyway would work just fine... (How many people with level over 10 might be there?) <= It doesn't work that way anymore, my bad.

You don't need to be level 10 to receive a booster pack. It was like that in the beginning, but I think this requirement was deleted almost right after the beta. Higher level just means you have a higher chance as every 10 level gives you 20% more chance to receive one.
There are only 2 requirements:
1, received all cards from the game
2, logged in during the last week into Steam

I did not know that. As soon as I saw you had to be level 10 I worked hard to get those badges.

How about a random coupon or set of coupons? They already give out plenty of them, and it has no direct loss unless used, which means a sale anyway.
