The same guy who gave us the lovable Jar Jar Binks.

Better than the Star Trek: Voyager writers. When fans told Lucas that Jar Jar sucked, Lucas shoved him into a bit part. When fans told Brannon Braga that Neelix sucked, Braga responded with "Oh, okay then. Have more Neelix while we take his beautiful young competent elf girlfriend out of the show!"

I played the beta. It's pretty much worse than WoW in every possible way except the voice acting, and I don't even like WoW so whatever.
It's cool that people at least get a chance to give the game a chance before having to pull out their wallets, though.

"it was nearly impossible to get the story if you wanted to play with people"
Are you kidding me? I think your friend needs a better server.

Yes, that was also part of the problem, the faction imbalance on EVERY SERVER.
He moved servers 3 or 4 times, didn't really help.

I actually have no issues with the supposed imbalance. My server for the Republic is The Nightmare Lands which is apparently weighed insanely in favour of the Empire, but the Republic side is still very well populated and feels full.

To be honest, I don't understand why a free trial isn't a standard feature for all MMOs at launch. I don't see why anyone would pay $60 plus a monthly fee for something they haven't even had the chance to see firsthand if it's any good. A free trial serves as both a demo to the game and a good advertising tool (that's a bit double since demos are also good advertising tools, but you get my point), so I don't understand why any MMO would choose to launch without one.

Well, they did made beta (which by today standards is demo...), and when you buy MMO you get one month of playing.
And by today standards, demos are (from publisher point of view) bad advertising tool: if demo is poor you can't say "that's beta, we'll fix it", and demos are more likely to scare people away from game (according to internet, Bulletstorm lost some money because people didn't like demo, same with Dragon Age 2), unless you prepare special version of demo (where you put best moments etc). It's much more efficient to make beta (especially closed beta - from marketing point of view beta have more power, since people can even "go kill each other" for access) and trailers (because you can choose what you want from whole game to make those, so you use best action scenes) then demos (unless you want to spend much more time and money to make demo).

"according to internet, Bulletstorm lost some money because people didn't like demo"
I'm sure they lost more by fucking over PC gamers with their attitude.

Well, they didn't cared about PC, so they wanted to get more sales with "console fanbois" ( you know, those people who spend half of their life on forums writing "PC sux, my console rux!!!111oneoneone" ).
But from what I know, BS didn't sell like they hoped, and one of the reasons was that people played demo and they didn't liked what they seen. But no PC sales - that's their attitude problem indeed.

mfw I actually liked Bulletstorm
And if the game is good, a demo can make a huge difference. I would probably never have bought Deus Ex Human Revolution if it wasn't for the demo (even though that was more "leaked review copy" than actual demo), and it ended up being one of my favorite games of last year.

I subbed for a few months when it was first released. Yeah the story arc is pretty epic in comparison to other MMO's but when you are done it it's just like any other MMO. The space combat is fun at first but its on rails and the enemies will always come at the same time and in the same place so it gets boring and repetitive. I do miss playing my healer as I did enjoy it somewhat and I was OP for soloing mobs other classes couldn't touch but it is a meh on the lasting fun factor.

I'm no die-hard super fan of WoW or TOR, but seen as TheJadeFalcon gifted me a weekend beta code I played it and I enjoyed myself thoroughly, I've also played WoW when it came out and quit after a few months and returned when cata came out, I stoped playing the game when it came out because it had alot of the same problems TOR has now, there was no dungeon finder, raiding was hard, and there wasn't really any proper story, but you have to keep in mind that ALL MMO's when they come out experience bugs, glitches & imbalance etc. But, as patches and expansions continue to be released, the game will most likely get better, and BioWare won't abandon the game because it cost them a whole lot, they spent about 2 years developing it and it's also the only real continuation from the uncomplete unsatisfactory KoTOR 2, so just give it some time and things will iron out.
