Your New Year’s Resolution is...

View Results
[Recurring subscription] ...to play only good games this year and these seem to fit into that category.
[New subscription] …to never miss a good deal when I see one.
[Maybe subscribe] ...to ponder more before jumping into a decision.
[Have] …to stop hoarding games that I already own.
[Pausing] ...to be more responsible. Holiday’s gone. Back to school / work! No time to play games any more :(
[Non-subscriber, will not buy] … to fatten my savings account like a turkey before Christmas.
[Complaint] I just bought these in the sale. Refund time?
[Complaining subscriber] I paid for the Classic sub to get *all* the games, and now it's already just 10 out of 12...

ok

Too much DLC for many of these... and usually deluxe editions cheaper than DLC...

Tho I miss exactly 10, so might ends still getting.

this seems to be a trend. only negative reviews about lack of content on basegame will fix this.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

what? review bombing? just dont buy those DLC and they will stop doing it
but bad review just bcs of DLC is not good thing, i played so many good games without DLC (just skipped buying them) and still had a lot of fun
but yeah, i also hate this trend

Everyone has their reasons to play.
Some play for the whole story, some plays for the whole plot.
Some just... play the images because they don't even know english.
If a dev want to take part off the game and put on a DLC, be ready to some backlash of a good part of their costumers for whatever their reasons to play (mostly because they want a full game they paid for).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

it really depends on the game
some DLC are just extra (character, map, playable nation, side story outside the main story), so if you buy they, you just extend the time, you will spend with the game
and if i see that buying single DLC which i wont is not cheaper than buying GOTY version of that game while i already have base game, i will rather stay without DLC and start another game, i will never support such behaviour
but yeah, if you playing base game and feel, like there is something missing, it is bad

Permalink

you just extend the time

isn't this how demos works?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The origin of problem is right there... We are not the one who chooses what is demo or full experience. Devs do that for you, sink you into tons of DLC to keep milking the game with DLCs as much as they can without much effort (since the base is already build)... They can freely choose to name a "demo" as "basegame". In my point of view, if any DLC comes with extra content, the "basegame" is a "demo". Specially when they milk the DLC as much as they can, like they are doing with Middle-earth: Shadow of War.
I'm still on the fence with Tomb Raider tho (last month), because it just adds some things that isn't properly an extra content...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

well, i hadve it with borderlands pre-sequel, i got it very cheap, but DLC have lot of content and they were pretty expensive, so i finished base game, which was still pretty good and then skip buying all DLC, bcs i dont like this and dont want support it.....but for some reason they do it again and again, so there are a lot of people, who just buy it anyway

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah... That's my concern. I just give them a proper negative review (anywhere) and move on... I feel that my mark has to be there.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Bad review because game is unfinished is very fair. It's not review bomb. If it's truth, that the content should be longer. Unfortunately it is fact for many games. There are exception where DLC is literally adding something additional, not fixing base game. Also if developer or publisher is planning DLC in advance, You know it's something wrong here.

+1
Are there review sites or steam curators that go for this topic specifically? Because for me that's a big part of my buying decisions.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

welll, i think i never played (bought) game, where was lack of content bcs rest was in DLC....mostly i know how much i can spend in that game (there are sites which tell you how long to beat) and if the prices is too hight and i would get low game time, i rather skip that game
if base game is good, but have a lot of content in DLC which are expensive, i skip DLC and choose another game, maybe i put it in review, that i dont like it, but thats all

Permalink

What I meant here is, that I saw some cool games, that people just criticized on Steam, that developer stopped doing anything, and that's fine.
But some of the games are just being hated because of things. Like, "The developer is white guy, so I hate his game" (ridiculous example, but some opinions really does sound like this xD).

We have to just get used to DLC's. I'm still against them being created, as long as they are not almost a second game itself (look at Witcher DLC, that adds tons of things, or expansion packs for The Sims [that actually started from expanding the game and now are just more like DLC to earn money, because they can, but It's still giving something to us] and compare it to Rise of the Tomb Raider. Giving things like tombs in extension is really bad. They are meant to be there in a first place. And they don't even make that much difference).

lack of content is not review bombing

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

well, not every game with DLC are cut in content....mostly when you buy some game, you can know, how much content is there and how long before you will finish it....if you think, that base game have lack of content, why bother to buy it and then give bad review, just skip it and they will know, they made mistake
if you buy and just put bad review bcs it have lack of content, it has very small effect

Nice collection of games. There is only 1 I already own, and 1 on my wishlist. Thanks for the insta-chart! :)

I wonder if Dirt Rally 2.0 will be free someday when the licenses expire, like the previous Dirt games... Hmmm

Nice, wondering if I should refund definitive edition of Shadow of War. But buying definitive edition was much cheaper for me.

Stick to definitive edition. Getting DLCs separately costs more.

That's the idea behind including just the base game.

My 2 cents :P

Hmmm
will HB do this "AAA game with so many DLC but we just give Them the base game trend" again next month?

Yes, that is entire business plan for the publishers part taking...

Definitely. Its how they monetize the games these days.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

if the DLC is "needed" to play the basegame, just give the basegame the proper negative review due lack of content.
this thing will never fix for itself if this "seems to be" supported by gaming community.

Do not worry, DLCs mostly add some possible play time.

You have good racing game, point & click game, management game, co-op game, action game... I mean diversity is there, it is not top-tier like some from previous months but for classic subscribers it is decent.

Yes. I can see HB for now on offering 12-15 games per month and forcing you to pick the ones you want. Its one of the reasons why they renamed it to Humble Choice.

Got shadow of war which is the only game I would be interested in.

Not a bad bundle, Will drop two point hospital since i already have it and most likely shadow of war since you are better off waiting for a sale on the definitive edition since it will still be cheaper than buying the dlc seperate.

Four wishlisted games and at least two very interesting candidates. Pretty good.
But Middle-earth: Shadow of War really should be the Definitive Edition. Buying the expansion pass cost more than buying the Definitive Edition during several sales, so that's a pretty pointless downgrade from a consumer perspective.
