Activating keys in this way can result in you getting banned and almost certainly will end up with the content being removed

So, according to this logic all of us may get a potential ban sooner or later, since we get keys from gifts/keydrops/giveaways from several websites/facebook/trading/whatever

It's not that logic. It's the logic of typing a random key. Imagine that he typed a key, yet to be used, from a retail package. The person with that retail disc goes home, tries to redeem the key from a sealed packet, and finds out that it's been used. They know this can't be the case, they contact steam support, they have the box to support it, the person who DID redeem that key, get's it removed from their account, and potentially banned.

Seriously who the hell is gonna prove that you typed a random key unless you say it in public like in this case????

No-one. But the point is, he DID say he just typed it randomly.

The code was for something else, i did not type it randomly. I Typed 2 letters off and it happened to be something else

I know, but for all intents and purposes, that's randomly, because of how fluked it is.

It's okay, what's done is done. But in the future, leave sleeping keys lie :)

Nope those are keys that people have bought. This is effectively theft.

The key system has many flaws. The guys @ Valve know that.
In an alternate universe you may get in trouble from all the unknown sources you get your keys, even if these keys are from a trusted site like SG. You can't be 100% if someone has a legitimate key or not.

You know that what you did right now is pretty bad. You found a key which probably belongs or should belong to someone else and just gave it to some other random stranger, you didn't even use it yourself (which would still be not so nice) you just game it to some stranger when it belongs to someone else, it is like finding a wallet and just giving to some random stranger passing by. Just WTF.

I hope with all my heart that this key will turn out to be a key for DLC that you will buy in future.
