Hey guys, I just wrapped up a big update on the wishlist page. Currently it's based on data from over 1,000 users, and you can make sure your information is included by checking the sync page. Sorry these pages are somewhat hidden, but the navigation will be updated soon.

Anyway though, the wishlist page is displayed in real-time, and it should help users find great gift ideas. You can easily set a minimum and maximum price, view the top gift suggestions within that price range, or view the top choices that haven't yet been gifted. Remember, the rank of a game on your wishlist is also important, so higher ranked games have more influence in the results. Check it out, and let me know your thoughts.

Now Steam has to upgrade their site to make it more friendly for SG users. Going through the pay process for every gift... tedious.

Just a fun fact, Out of the top 25 games, ALL BUT TWO are in the $40.00 or ABOVE range. There is hardly anything below that in the top. Do people just have a massive hardon for new stuff, or are people just not satisfied with oldie-but-goodie titles? Made me sort've lose faith in the whole 'free' thing if all people want are the big titles.

People generally put games they want on their wishlist, not games that they specifically want to see given away on steam gifts. The steam wishlist was not built as a giveaway suggestion mechanism for steamgifts.

But with the new update it IS being seen as that way, as I said to Glap the other day, "It seems like this could be used to gauge the popularity of a game and possibly give it away."

You have to remember that people probably made their wishlists for the Summer contest, in which case people would put their most expensive wanted games in their wishlist since they could buy the cheap games while they were on sale.

Permalink

Yeah pretty much that. Once the summer contest a lot of people are just going to either change their wishlist to the more reasonable one or just delete everything on it like me.

That's exactly what I did. I figured I could just buy the cheaper games and hoped I'd win the more expensive ones. Of course, I wasn't one of the winners, but I haven't changed my wishlist yet either.

My wishlist generally is cheaper. DX:HR is number one, but I've loved the DX series for yeaaars. But, also on there is Longest Journey, etc

I only put the most expensive titles to the top of my wishlist for the off chance I would win the summer camp raffle

Looks like a nice setup CG, will definitely make it easier for people to know what games people want as opposed to guessing which games people want.

Is there a away to see these "Existing Gift"s from this page? It would be great if there is one.

I think private giveaways are included in the count. At least, the giveaway for Deus Ex: HR doesn't seem to be public. Either that, or it's already closed.

The wishlist is just useless statistics; a gifting suggestion; an indication what the entire community is craving as a whole. The wishlist page on this site is not your personal wishlist nor is it governing the giveaways on the site.

Woah there pardner why you getting all upset for? I was just saying that it isn't showing here, might be a bug or something.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm not upset. Just clearly explaining what it is and isn't, just encase there is any misconceptions about it. If it's not showing up in the 90 to 95 area (92, or 93) then there is something going on for you. This page should appear the same to everyone viewing it at the same time. (The page changes as it pulls in more data). If it is a bug you should alert CG. You might want to refresh the page and make sure the slider at the top is set to the broadest range ($0-$100).

Is anyone else having contradictory results? At least for this game?

I can see it perfectly fine here http://www.steamgifts.com/wishlist it's at 93. And it's also in my steam wishlist, but on the sync page it's not showing up, the page has been updated several times in the past days. I'm not raging about it or anything, just curious.

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh that's good to know (about the sync page). Then CG should know about this. If it's not an isolated incident it could corrupt the wishlist stats. Not sure why it is happening.

UPDATE: Nevermind I know why this is happening and CG knows. It doesn't appear as there is no price for it in your wishlist.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/stickman08/wishlist

You could try to re-adding it to your wishlist. It might come up with a price, seeing as the store page has a price for the game.

Yeah sometimes with wishlist if you added a game to your wishlist before a price was given, e.g. before it was released. It will save that app ID as "that game" in your wishlist. If the game comes out and the app ID changes, or a deluxe/standard version changes at any-point, the app ID can change and your wishlist doesn't auto-update in steam to compensate. Just a flaw with steam :(

Are there links to the wishlist and sync page anywhere on the site other than this thread? I think links would be useful under "Account & Invites." I had to google to find this thread again.
