A word of caution - the PC controls are a rancid, fetid pile of pustulent, rotten skunk corpses. In other words - they stink.

The mouse has acceleration and deceleration (which they promised to fix with an option in the game settings - which did fuck all to fix it), higher sensitivity horizontally as compared to vertically (as if you're still using a joystick), and deadzone issues (yes, on a mouse - moving the mouse too slowly results in no movement whatsoever; this might be caused by the extremely aggressive acceleration).

Now imagine trying to aim for headshots on enemies that stumble and jumble about haphazardly with erratic movement, bearing in mind the issues I described - particularly the "deadzone" issue. You need to make small adjustments to your aim to track their heads with any degree of success. Good luck with that, as again - moving the mouse too slowly will result in your crosshair doing nothing. So, you end up trying to jerk the mouse tiny amounts very fast, which causes the acceleration to kick in and sends your aim flying 90 degrees to your right or left, instead, when you're trying to just track the head of some enemy who's lumbering at you.

These issues make the game entirely unplayable with keyboard and mouse controls.

I got the game from a trader for TF2 keys, or I would have demanded a refund. The game is absolutely a great game - great fun, good story, good gameplay, runs exceptionally well on lower end machines than you'd expect given how pretty it looks, etc. - but only playable with a gamepad. I strongly dislike aiming in FPS / TPS games with a joystick when I have a damn mouse available as this is a PC game, but would tolerate it for this game if I had one;- still need to get one. If you don't own a gamepad and don't want to buy one / aren't ever planning on buying one, or flat-out refuse to play TPS games with one, don't get this game.

Sounds like they really screwed up their PC port.

Games made for PCs instead of being ported to PCs don't have these issues for long. Either the devs accidentally messed with something, or there's some error on the user's part. Maybe they assume PC users don't know how to use a mouse, so they do these B.S. mouse tweaks. They're just sabotaging their own games.

Hopefully, another user will fix the screw-ups caused by the Revelation devs or whoever ported it. But I don't have this game, and only know bad mouse-keyboard user reviews, so I won't get this game. I'm a huge Resident Evil fan. HUGE.

ok, nah, i play those games with gamepad on pc as well, i think they are made well for that kind and of course in mind for gamepad when developed (sure a great pc port would allow a greater!!! control with keyboard + mouse, NOTHING BEATS IT in reaction!) but other than the controls, anything better with pc version or even worse? i could get it for ps3 or pc.

For fighting games, platformers, most sports games, and twin-stick shooters, gamepad is best. For MMO, FPS, and RTS, definitely keyboard/mouse.

This is in no way user error. This also isn't simply them fucking with mouse controls. The Steam discussion forums for the game are full of complaints about these issues. It feels / seems like they simply handle mouse input with the same damn API as joypad data. Like I said - it feels like you're moving a joystick around instead of a mouse. If this is true, the chance it can / will be fixed by modders is minimal.. :/

The Resident Evil series has a long and well documented track record of enthusiastically flipping the bird to PC users at every available opportunity. This franchise boasts some of the worst and laziest ports I've ever played. I've been stung too many times to risk dropping cash on this one, but if the Dyson engineers could muster half as much suction from their home appliances, there would be little reason for their competitors to carry on trading.

Seriously, how difficult is it to make a game which correctly implements the PC's primary peripherals, the mouse and keyboard? Even the cheapest indie games regularly manage it. Let's put this into perspective - we're not talking about a $7.99 bargain basement port. These games are sold at full price, and PC owners are entitled to (and should be demanding) far, far more than this, even if that entails some re-writing of the console version.

Pathetic.

I agree wholeheartedly. And I've heard enough about the RE series and its' lamentable track record as far as PC ports go, sadly. As I said, I unfortunately can't demand a refund, as I got it through trading, so will have to resign to playing it with a gamepad (when I eventually buy one). Luckily it's an RE game so can be played quite well with one, but as you say - I should not fucking have to on a AAA PC game.. :/

No, every game is better on PC. Even shitty ports like GTA IV, with mods the games are 20x better on PC. There was only 1 game better on Console, Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver for Dreamcast. It had better textures and polygons since the PC version was just a PS1 port. You'd be hard pressed to find another one or two games.

No.

Ecco is not better on PC. The controls are rooted, and there is no reason to recommend it over the console original other than terminal damage to your Sega Genesis.

Likewise, I defy anyone to tell me that the Steam version of Sega Bass Fishing is actually better than the Dreamcast original. Again, the controls are shafted.

The latest FIFA installment promises to suck balls in comparison to its console version. EA have deliberately hobbled the PC version with archaic graphics in order to shift more console copies. While I pass no comment on its quality as a game, it proves that if developers try hard enough, there is no limit to the scope for making an inferior PC version, particularly when, as in this case, they deliberately set out to do so.

There are three, and I don't even feel mildly pressed yet...

I think the above examples prove pretty conclusively that it's perfectly possible to make such a bad fist of porting a game that the superiority of the PC platform is negated by woeful design choices, abject laziness and a disregard for your customers and their expectations. Some companies turn this type of piss-poor porting into an art form...

PC Version looks slightly less dated. Still 40 € base price is way too much. Don' get me wrong, it is by no means a bad game but something like 20 € would have been more reasonable. Apart from the shitty graphics it is mindless fun.

And VAC, and who knows how it works in this game, Capcom hasn't come out with any info regarding this. Tested out some mods before I saw it was VAC-secure, so I've just messaged Steam Support to see if I've been flagged or not. Hopefully, that's not how it works, but who knows.

Nobody will ban you for cosmetic mods, nobody has been banned so far and nobody will. It's true that the game is VAC protected but I have yet to see anybody being banned for such thing. Heck, not even RE6 cheaters get banned.

I had doubts when I read the gamehub posts but after 62 hours I can say that the mouse issues are actually unnoticeable if you're used to play with high sensitivity (Which most of the PC users usually are), you'll never hit the deadzone issue (Never happened to me). Dunno about low sens but I never play with low.

The whole horizontal-vertical speed difference is never an issue (Same with RE6) because you get used to it. In fact you wont even notice it unless somebody tells you about it.

Do what the sticky says, play with sens set at 3 and some other settings I forgot about (I think it was Vsync turned off, the game rarely has screen tearing to begin with anyway) and you're good to go. I'm getting trinity bonuses in trench so controls are definitely NOT a dealbreaker. Also be aware that many of the complains date from months ago, far before some patches that added a few features and fixes (Last patch was during the capcom sale).

If there's something you should be aware of is about the FOV. It's REALLY low so you may get motion sickness the first hour or so. I never have motion sickness so I'm fine with that and in fact got used to this (I would've set it to max if there was such option).

I gotta admit that while no FOV options is pretty much a straight console port issue it DOES look like the game benefits from it, game's really tense since you can't see what's behind you. Don't get me wrong, I hate the lack of FOV option, I would've set that to max but this is one of the few games I can actually bear to play with such low FOV and ended up embracing the lack of the feature.
