I just saw this pay what you want, DRM free, e-book site. It's just like humble bundle except for e-books. I don't know if there are any big readers out there, but my girlfriend loves it. storybundle.com

Huh. That sounds like a really good idea, actually. I'm gonna give this a try.

It's a great idea. I just wanted to spread the word to make sure they do another.

I prefer actual books. Can't read huge amounts of things on a computer screen, kind of hurts my eyes.

Get a reader. E-ink is quite cool tech if you are into reading fiction. Not overly expensive anymore...

Actual books have a certain feel about them that can't be replaced.

Same here, but it doesn't hurt my eyes.

I much prefer actual books.

Same. I stare at computer screens long enough as it is. There's also just some point of pride in owning a personal library of stuff you're really into.

IMO, mind you.

They don't say anything about activating on Steam, so I'll pass.

This is interesting too bad there isn't like a "steam" for e-books. I know you can just throw them on the device and forget about it but I like to keep a cloud backup of stuff like that.

I have a Nook touch by the way.

I would love some "e-library" for e-books.

Well I tell you why I dont care.

-I dont have any "devices", no not even a phone
-These all seem to be pre-teen sci-fi novels
-I take weekly visits to the local bookstore that throw out literally a dumpster full of books every week. I have almost 3,000 books in my garage...

Damn, that last part is pretty awesome...yet sorta sad also that they get thrown out so much :-/.

Yeah they take trades and donations from libraries and other people, so its a ton of waste. I dont think its even a recycle dumpster. I am doing okay with it though, at 25-50 cents each at a garage sale, I clean up nicely.

Yeah, just throwing them out like that is a huge waste! Just the 3,000 books that were saved alone would make a very nice bonfire.

It's their first bundle, and they are all self published, so hopefully with more awareness and more sales they will continue to expand. The interview I read stated that this one was sci-fi but the next will be a different genre. I too love having actual books, 3 walls of my living room are bookshelves, but it's nice to have quick reads for the kindle for flights, road trips and waiting rooms. It does suck they throw out so many books. I'm glad you find a place for them.

The part about throwing out stuff is a major reason I like digital. I hate getting rid of old stuff, and with digital I can just hoard it all without wasting space or feeling ashamed.

Yes but.... entire garage full of books, and I can maybe read two a week. Its gonna be awhile...

A long while. Maybe forever, if you continue to get books this way. I don't think you need to buy any books, digital or not. Hopefully you'll still buy something from authors you like to support them.

I thought I bought it when it was last posted, but I can't find a confirmation, so I guess I didn't. Hard to keep track of all the forgettable stuff I've been buying.

Edit: I guess I should apply to such bundles a similar rule to what I'm trying to apply to games: when I finish my Fictionwise backlog and all the novels at the Baen Free Library then and only then I should buy such stuff.
