So if I go on about how proud I am of being straight during the rest of the year nobody will go off on me about being a homophobe and an oppressor, right?
Comment has been collapsed.
They will, because you'll be a fool like the rest.
If you need a whole month to spread on people's face about your sexuality, probably people don't want to remember you or you're doing something to people hate you, it's just a matter of thinking.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think that's a bit of an over exaggeration but even if you're somewhat correct, maybe "people" "don't want to remember you" or "hate you" because "you need a whole month to spread on people's face about your sexuality". It's just a matter of perspective.
And why exactly will I be a fool, you overly emotional muppet?
Comment has been collapsed.
You'll be a fool if you spread to everyone know "Hey, look, I'm gay/straight/ketchup" all the time.
Where I live, those parades and days are to spread hate against all other things that aren't gay with public money, so yeah, they made people hate them because their actions.
Even the ones that just want some freedom or a day to enjoy are overwhelmed by hate.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't disagree with that.
I didn't mean that I want to go around being proud of anything, I only pointed out that the rest of the year being straight pride months is inaccurate. And I'm not even all that proud of being ketchup.
Comment has been collapsed.
its perfectly accurate. if you bothered reading the op you would realize “Gay Pride, was not born out of a need to celebrate being gay.
It evolved out of our need as human beings to break free of oppression and to exist without being criminalized, pathologized or persecuted."
so with PRIDE we are saying "i don't feel SHAME anymore", just like the rest of the straight population since the inception of civilization.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well then now that being gay is no longer "criminalized, pathologized or persecuted" in western countries, maybe they stop making a fuss about it "just like the rest of the straight population since the inception of civilization."
Comment has been collapsed.
In which real western country do you get arrested for being gay?
Comment has been collapsed.
Nah, in Western Countries, you can still lose housing, be fired etc, for being gay. All because you aren't being killed in theory, doesn't mean that work doesn't need to be done.
Comment has been collapsed.
The point was about being "criminalized, pathologized or persecuted". So it's not really a same, but fine, give me an example of someone who was fired or lost housing for being gay.

Definition of persecution: hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs.

Just recently we had the Orlando Night club shooting, so this idea that everything is hunky dory in the west is stupid and asinine. There is still work to be done. The fact you couldn't use google and find out the current state of affairs and need someone on the idiot to hold your hand is problematic. Marriage wasn't the be all end all. There are plenty of stories of people who get fired or lose housing beccause of it.
Educate yourself.

Nice, neutral sources, but I still can't see that example I asked for. And I don't think it's problematic that I don't defend your position instead of you.
But fine, I'll meet you half way, shootings should be illegal...ohwait.
Don't tell me what to do.
Comment has been collapsed.
There's your source.
In response to this, did you bother to look up the definitions for either pathologized or persecuted? It seems you just focused on criminalized and ignored everything after it. If you're arguing that homosexuality is no longer pathologized or persecuted, you're definitely doing it from a place of ignorance.
Pathologized: to view or characterize as medically or psychologically abnormal
We could go into how it took until the late 80's for the DSM to completely declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder, and that it took until the 90's for WHO to remove it completely from the ICD. We could talk about the continued stigmatization that the LGBTQ community has endured and continues to endure now, furthering the cycle of mental illness and drug abuse. We could go over the many religious and spiritual parents who have forced their LGBTQ children into conversion therapy. We could look at the incredibly high suicide rates of the LGBTQ youth discuss why "the likelihood of death by suicide has been estimated to be two to seven times greater than the likelihood of death by suicide among heterosexual youth." or why the suicide rates for these youths were lowered and even closely eliminated in some states with a more protective climate for the LGBTQ community.
This would be comical if it weren't over such a serious issue. If you're arguing that the LGBTQ community isn't experiencing the above definition in today's climate, then I'm afraid I've wasted my time up until this point.
I'll end with this: the reason why this is progressively getting better is because of awareness campaigns like LGBTQ Pride Month and threads like these to initiate the discussion. Let me tell you, I bullied and was unbelievably sadistic to the gay people I went to school with in the 90's and that shit still weighs on my heart now. The best thing you can do is take laughinman's advice and educate yourself.
Comment has been collapsed.
At least you gave examples. They are not very recent ones, are they?
Pathologisation. I said it no longer happens and you said it no longer happens since the 90s. I'm glad we agree.
Persecution. Being gay is a belief now? And harassment is a very malleable term these days so it doesn't mean much on its own.
I'll end with this: the fact that you want to feel like a good person in your guilt-ridden mind is neither an argument or a reason for me to listen to you. The best thing you can do is take my advice and stop telling me what to do.
Comment has been collapsed.
Honestly educating yourself is something we should all do, if you want to be an ignorant asshole that's fine. But say it so no one wastes their time trying to educate you. Say that I'm either to lazy or to stupid, or to thickheaded to do research and educate myself and would prefer to live in my tiny insignificant world where it's me vs them, or whatever goes on in that little head of yours.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't think we should all educate myself, I'd rather decide what to think myself if you don't mind. Comeonman, if you have to insult me because you can't think of anything better, then at least make it entertaining. Tell you what, I'll "educate myself" if you familiarise yourself with the concept of projection.
Comment has been collapsed.
They are not very recent ones, are they?
Here's two more examples: Altitude Express Inc. v. Zarda and Bostock v. Clayton County both of which are on the Supreme Court docket for next year. That's about as recent as it gets. The Supreme Court is actually going to decide next year whether gay, transgender workers are protected by anti-discrimination laws under the Civil Rights Act of 1964.. There is actually a whole major political party here in the U.S. that is arguing that the Civil Rights Act cannot be interpreted to apply to sexual orientation as well.
I said it no longer happens and you said it no longer happens since the 90s. I'm glad we agree.
Again, did you stop reading past that first sentence?
and fair enough on your last point. It's just that you seem young and uninformed with statements like, "don't tell me what to do" coupled with your idea that discrimination against LGBTQ has vanished completely and is non-existent today. It's baffling. It just feels like I'm having this discussion with a child.

"It just feels like I'm having this discussion with a child."
I feel exactly the same, maybe we're not so different, you and I.

Yeah, I thought you were serious because I've seen that line so many times. It's hard to tell these days.
That happens sadly, but as long as there is no actual violence it's not a big deal, in my opinion. Hate is just an emotion.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think the pride month is more about this group of people coming together and being proud of what they are, in contrast to often being made felt ashamed of their nature. A reinforcement that there isn't something wrong with them (as they are often made to feel). Instead of trying to stop the discrimination.
Comment has been collapsed.
Having lived in Boston and visited 3 of the 4 cities you mention, I would disagree. I haven't been to Seattle, but my relatives there have never mentioned any discrimination. In fact, I have straight friends in each of those cities that have lived there for years, and not a single one of them has been discriminated against for being straight.
Comment has been collapsed.
Fuck, your life must be just awful, being straight and discriminated against constantly. The beatings, having to hide your sexual orientation from everyone, being condemned by nearly every religion, and even having your own parents embarrassed by you -- I'm not sure how you're able to cope.
Being straight is a tough life! Having been straight my entire life, I'm totally feeling ya, bro-ski!

I think you're being way over the top here.
Sure, militant LGBT people do exist. They do more harm than good when it comes to acceptance and progress. I was community manager of a forum and one of our moderators was being ridiculous. Most of the staff were quite liberal or moderates actually, but this lady... holy moly, next level stuff. There was some article about a guy with no penis who claimed to have had sex with over 50 women that got linked in the Current Events area. Some other clown makes a comment like "oh, he didn't have to worry about making babies then." This militant lady mod goes all nuts on the poster saying that she just upset every gay and trans person reading that. It wasn't the girl's (poster) intention. She was being a clown and laughing at the newspaper article (a straight guy with no penis), I highly doubt that the LGBT+ community even crossed her mind when she was commenting. I pulled the mod aside and had a word with her about finding things to be enraged at where there are none. But... might as well talk to a wall, in all honesty. It wasn't the first time she got all up in someone's face over something so dumb.
So yes, a VERY small minority of these people do exist who attack straight people for no reason at all. But... it's so incredibly rare. There are people of all mindsets in this world, and extreme is never a good thing no matter which end of the left/right scale you go. You're like the complete opposite to that lady mod, someone who wants to play the victim for being straight.
Comment has been collapsed.
I do not live in those regions, nor have I visited them so I can not say, however I've never seen a news report about it either. So while it may happen, I did say "generally" and in a global case I think the "LGBT" community has suffered far worse than the "straight" community from discrimination.

Rape in prison isn't done solely by gay men. Also they're not being raped for being straight, gay men are equally raped in prison. Hence it's not discrimination for being "straight".
I only know of raping of women in the military. But again I hardly believe they're being raped for being "straight".
Hence your point is invalid.
Comment has been collapsed.
You do realize that most of the rape that goes on in prison is done by men who identify as heterosexual, right? You really picked the worst possible examples -- two groups forced into a single gender environment for long periods of time. In fact, if someone wanted to pick nits over your examples, all you've said is that straight men commit rape more often than gays.

Look, I'm not a hateful person or anything–I believe we should all live and let live. But lately, I've been having a real problem with these homosexuals. You see, just about wherever I go these days, one of them approaches me and starts sucking my cock. Take last Sunday, for instance, when I casually struck up a conversation with this guy in the health-club locker room. Nothing fruity, just a couple of fellas talking about their workout routines while enjoying a nice hot shower. The guy looked like a real man's man, too–big biceps, meaty thighs, thick neck. He didn't seem the least bit gay. At least not until he started sucking my cock, that is. Where does this queer get the nerve to suck my cock? Did I look gay to him? Was I wearing a pink feather boa without realizing it? I don't recall the phrase, "Suck my cock" entering the conversation, and I don't have a sign around my neck that reads, "Please, You Homosexuals, Suck My Cock." I've got nothing against homosexuals. Let them be free to do their gay thing in peace, I say. But when they start sucking my cock, then I've got a real problem. Then there was the time I was hiking through the woods and came across a rugged-looking, blond-haired man in his early 30s. He seemed straight enough to me while we were bathing in that mountain stream, but, before you know it, he's sucking my cock. What is it with these homos? Can't they control their sexual urges? Aren't there enough gay cocks out there for them to suck on without them having to target normal people like me? Believe me, I have no interest in getting my cock sucked by some queer. But try telling that to the guy at the beach club. Or the one at the video store. Or the one who catered my wedding. Or any of the countless other homos who've come on to me recently. All of them sucked my cock, and there was nothing I could do to stop them. I tell you, when a homosexual is sucking your cock, a lot of strange thoughts go through your head: How the hell did this happen? Where did this fairy ever get the idea that I was gay? And where did he get those fantastic boots? It screws with your head at other times, too. Every time a man passes me on the street, I'm afraid he's going to grab me and drag me off to some bathroom to suck my cock. I've even started to visualize these repulsive cock-sucking episodes during the healthy, heterosexual marital relations I enjoy with my wife–even some that haven't actually happened, like the sweaty, post-game locker-room tryst with Vancouver Canucks forward Mark Messier that I can't seem to stop thinking about. Things could be worse, I suppose. It could be women trying to suck my cock, which would be adultery and would make me feel tremendously guilty. As it is, I'm just angry and sickened. But believe me, that's enough. I don't know what makes these homosexuals mistake me for a guy who wants his cock sucked, and, frankly, I don't want to know. I just wish there were some way to get them to stop. I've tried all sorts of things to get them to stop, but it has all been to no avail. A few months back, I started wearing an intimidating-looking black leather thong with menacing metal studs in the hopes that it would frighten those fa**ots off, but it didn't work. In fact, it only seemed to encourage them. Then, I really started getting rough, slapping them around whenever they were sucking my cock, but that failed, too. Even pulling out of their mouths just before ejaculation and shooting sperm all over their face, neck, chest and hair seemed to have no effect. What do I have to do to get the message across to these swishes? I swear, if these homosexuals don't take a hint and quit sucking my cock all the time, I'm going to have to resort to drastic measures–like maybe pinning them down to the cement floor of the loading dock with my powerful forearms and working my cock all the way up their butt so they understand loud and clear just how much I disapprove of their unwelcome advances. I mean, you can't get much more direct than that.

long. And my translation function broke down again.... maybe.
I like the waterside because it is kappa.
And I like hot springs and bathing facilities.
And they also like such places and seem to come to play.
Even on that day, when I tried to bathe with human skin, a man of humanity suddenly touched my ass.
"Don't aim at this ass!"
Then he
”"Huh? If you have a" garment box key "on your left arm, left ankle and right ankle, that's a good sign?”
"I don't know!"
There was such a thing.
That's probably where it is easy for them to gather.
There will be rules only among them.
”"I'm sorry I was wrong"”
I do not mind if there is that one word.
However, there are those who are forcing "the rules of their own".
It is at least a bad humanity.┐(´Θ`)┌
Oh, that's not the case for all humanity, right?
However, history proves that human beings are unhappy from the imposition of rules. It's horrible.
It is good for people to be respected.
However, it looks the same as dealing with foreigners who do not understand the language of their own country.
That would be the correct response.

I've surprisingly caught a few people (the Deleted's, M4C14W, supercollider..) who are too quick to respond/form a conclusion and can't read past the first sentences. Are you maybe another one..? Cause listen it's not my fault these gross homosexuals keep having sex with me.

I'm fortunate to live in a country where we have Pride events in most big cities. That said, I hope there comes a time when you'll be able to go to a Pride event near you or even in your town. Even better if your parents will come around and go with you! 🤞
