They are trying to test run the market, all copies are saleable in the Community market, they are giving you free copies of a game so that you wont go and try to sell your hard earned game and then lose it to a glitch and cry. it's annoying but at least they are letting us dry run it with their own materials.

I think they also want to make a fuss about dota to spread the word and more people come. Cause now with the invites we are all like TAKE MY KEYS!!! If they would just release it to open beta we all be like oh ok dota 2 is eventually open.

The Dispenser dude? If he would sell all of those copies in the Steam Market he would earn... around 150$/€.

DotA 2 is worth 0,03$/€ in Steam Market. When I checked earlier he had about 5000 copies (now he has about 6000). Do the math.

well, then 120, because of those 3 cents, Valve takes one.

You know the price they are worth includes Valve fees, right? Meaning that all the people selling for 3 cents are only getting two cents.
5600 copies at 0,02$ each= 112$

Aye, and the people that create custom TF 2 content and sell it get (them)25/75(Valve). People will eventually learn they aren't complete angels that only think about the consumer. They are a company, and they will try their hardest to make a profit.

But how many people are actually making money from created items? It's a lottery to be chosen, and a lottery as to whether Valve attaches your created model to item stats that people will actually want.
Gabe/Valve throw out that high end figure for pure PR purposes. They never mention average profits in those articles, much less the least someone makes. Nor do they mention how many people are getting paid (much less out of how many people who have tried to get their work chosen) or how often a new person's work gets picked. Only the largest single person profit gets mentioned.

You're probably right, I'm not personally vested in this issue and I only have a minor interest in it, I just wanted to throw that in there as something to consider and as a counter-point.

I'll take any you wanna get rid of. This goes for anyone. I don't need em, but I'll get rid of them eventually...maybe. Don't mind taking them off your hands if you don't want them though

All I wanna say is that he doesn't really about us.
Tell me what has become of my rights
Am I invisible because you ignore me?
Your proclamation promised me free DOTA2, now
I'm tired of bein' the victim of bad luck
They're throwing me in a class with that schmuck
I can't believe this is the Steam from which I came
You know I really do hate to say it
Gabe Newell don't wanna see
But if Harrington was livin'
He wouldn't let this be, no, no
...Okay, I got carried away.

Hey, can someone send me some of these Dota2 invites ? I need three or four so I can offer them to my friends so they play with me :)

No begging.
Tell your friends to trade with the Dota bot, they will get their copies for free.
Too lazy to look up the steamprofile, do some research ;)

Sorry for the begging, it's just I have absolutely no idea of how to get the keys (call me noob, I am :p). Anyway, gotta look for that. Thanks

There you go <- make sure you read the profile description
The bot will not give you extra copies if you already own the game, so tell your friends to add the bot.
And remember: begging is bad (it's also not allowed here, as stated in the FAQ)

Ho thank you. And once again, sorry if it was considered as begging, I just thought I could say if I needed some invite. Anyway, my bad.

Fun fact: I've never (ever) gotten a single Dota 2 invite - ever - from Valve.

+1. I do have DOTA 2, but my computer is incapable of running it, so I think I'm at low risk for inventory spam.

Mostly 2D stuff. If it's more graphically complex than the Portal series (which runs surprisingly well), then there's a good chance I can't run it. I also have a terrible internet connection, so that limits my game choices even further (no online TF2 for this guy).

lol..... I wonder..... You imagine on April 1st ...... Bamm everyone gets 100 copies on there accounts lmao

WE wouldn't be complaining if the free game in question wasn't more unwanted copies of Dota. (Then again, free copies of Bad Rats might not go down well either.)
