Well, the original idea of regional pricing was to not use exchange rate since it's too volatile, and often expensive on the region in question. But, they recently updated store prices and made them so expensive, the regions there are probably not buying anything anymore, so, instead of lowering them for the regions that already existed, they bundled them and put it lower there.

I think she was reading reddit as the news were breaking, but then she told she was getting too bummed out by this and went to do something else.

Yeah, this doesn't look good. For now I'm making plans to get certain games before November 20 since they're essentially at the lowest they'll ever be right now just by default (that's kinda sad to think about).

it's absolutely terrible, comparable to the end of days, for people affected. Most regions will go back to piracy after this.

devs can't spend so much time adjusting prices every couple months, they need to work on their games.

The problem is that the suggested prices for these regions are insanely high for Turkish and Argentinian people. Developers can put separate price for regions but most developers don't change the suggested price. We already had a major price increase (prices increased by 5-10 times) a few months ago and now the (leaked) suggested are way more than the current prices.

From what I understand, it is bad for a few specific countries, yet good for the regions as a whole. Indeed:

• Steam did not support local currencies in a few countries there, so people paid in USD, at the same price as in the USA,
• afterwards, all the countries in these regions will use USD as a currency, with decreased prices compared to the USA.

this goes pretty much against the initial goal of divide the gaming in regions. the initial goal were include certain regions into regions because their weak currency. however, when you divide those regions due their weak currency and yet force them to use stronger currencies, this will pretty much force them to go for full piracy, because prices won't be accessible.

The table also has the equivalent in US for the old suggested prices for Pesos and Liras. and a comparison between CIS Latam MENA and South Asia

We will have a suggested price almost 9% lower than CIS and almost 6% higher than SASIA.

The suggested price compared to US will be (approx) for:
$ 5 40% lower
$10 40% lower
$15 45% lower
$20 50% lower
$60 55% lower

The variation between the old suggested price in USD and the new one will be (approx) for:
Argentina 150% to 166% increase
Turkey 50% to 55% increase

*The games below $5 increase more, and much more the ones priced at $3 or less.

This is actually sad to see, from both angles. :(

It's hard to blame developers or publishers for what's largely outside of their control, Argentina's current economic situation is a complete shitshow, us Argentinians are painfully aware of it. I will blame Valve for never addressing the region hoppers tho, they should be delivering bans like candy if they really cared about enforcing their own TOS.

Bad for Argentina and Turkey, theoretically good for the other countries included. I've seen no news regarding those two regions you mentioned so I assume they'll see no modification to their pricing, at least for now. Take everything I repeat like a parrot say here with a grain of salt the size of one of those salt lamps tho.

For now only Argentina and Turkey, the rest is maybe in the future. Bad for those two, maybe bad for some grey market / official market key prices that can be bought in those countries and can be activated anywhere else. The rest won't feel much from it.

Since it looks like both MENA and LATAM will have the same prices I'd assume that it should at least be possible to gift games across both regions, as long as publishers don't go crazy with region restriction set by them.
But we won't know for sure until these changes go live.

Sega is Japanese, and Japanese publishers are kinda notorious for being weird about regional pricing, so I'm not surprised. Also Sega and Capcom were already increasing the prices for Argentina very aggressively the last few months, to the point that they were ahead of inflation quite often. The last Sonic game was barely reduced when compared to the US price.

¿En qué sentido? Porque Steam ya hizo el cambio y abandonó el peso en favor del dólar, el cambio fue ayer (sospechosamente justo después del balotaje). Pero a nivel de que va a hacer el gobierno la dolarización es una linda idea de campaña pero no es viable en el corto plazo, Menem tardo un par de años en llevarla a cabo, ni de pedo Milei puede implementarla durante 2024 con los pocos dólares que hay en existencia actualmente, yo lo veo más tirando para el 2026 y eso es asumiendo que logra pasar las leyes por el senado sin que se las bloqueen.
Y ni hablemos de una dolarización estilo Ecuador, no hay con qué hacerla ni hoy ni en en cinco años, el tipo necesitaría dos mandatos enteros o más para llegar a esa meta.
