Difference here is that a scammer can't go in and delete the negatives. Sure, they can get users to load comments, but the site is moderated, to a point, and getting caught can get those comments (and potentially their entire history) stripped.

Like I said, so be it. I've always trusted ST, rep threads, and SteamRep, whereas I've had multiple people rep me out of nowhere on my profile and couldn't keep track of what was fake and what wasn't. That never felt right, so I wiped it all. Besides, most of the traders I've been dealing with through barter.vg have been anti-comment anyway, so, again, so be it.

Yes, but it's at least far less convenient to do, and the risk of getting discovered is a bit bigger (as are the consequences for getting discovered). With steam rep, you just need to spam "rep for rep" and you'll get it.

Why? Because there are groups devoted to false +rep trading, so people with fake +reps can use them to scam newbie traders.

So, after making the day of a new trader that got scammed on his first trade, I manned up and purged all pointless +rep comments from my Steam profile, as I have been trying to convince myself to do for a long time. 3 years worth of worthless "rep", gone. Feels good.
