As another guy who's been in a lot of bands (but not really in one right now if you don't count sitting with with a couple of buddies to play an occasional jazz gig, but that's not really my band), I checked out your music...good stuff, man! So, what do you do in the band? Trying to pick you out in that last video. :)

I play the keyboards and the bass. Actually, we currently are only the blond guy and me. We write songs together and often we write or at least contribute each others parts as well. Trying to finalize material for our debut album (prerecording everything as demos before going to the studio), something I have wanted to do for a long time and dreamed of doing.

Nice! I play keys as well, but haven't ever been the keyboard player in the band...mostly just used that skill for songwriting. I was a drummer and backing vocalist in one band for a while, and then the lead guitarist and I left to start our own project, and he decided that I should be lead vocalist (long story). That was a really solid band...almost got signed a couple of times, but you know, musician drama. lol
Really glad to see someone actively doing music around here. If I had it my way, that's what I would do for a living, but it's really tough to be a professional musician. That IT gig pays waaaayyy better. :D

Yeah, at one point I had to decide and since I like doing music with no worries or strings attached then I decided that earning a living off it is not my goal (it would be nice if it would happen, but it's unrealistic without actually treating it as work work). I have been offered to play at weddings and stuff like that, but I haven't felt like it is something I want to do.
IT gig is paying well and I'm leaning towards getting enough salary (subjective of course) that I don't need to work 5 days a week. So I can focus on other things, like music or gaming or managing my household.
Putting together the album and the material is fun for us and we have a lot of material over the years to choose from. The worst part which I am really not keen on is the marketing and organizing stuff to get it out there so it gets noticed. Luckily, for us success is already having it materialize. Everything beyond that is bonus.

I don't have student loans, in Estonia education is free. On the PhD level there is little to none competition and there are scholarships and stipends which are pretty ok to get in IT. Companies want more PhD level students, but there aren't a lot of people interested in it (you make more money going to industry before PhD and it is not required for good salary).

Today is my birthday (25.05) and I turned 29.
I am currently writing my PhD thesis, hopefully will graduate in 2018 autumn.
I started this month half-time job at a new company and will upgrade to full in autumn.
