As much as I criticized them for some of the things they did, this is just sad ...
We can only hope that the devs get out of this.

That bundle was actually a farewell.

Just because they file for bankruptcy doesn't mean they're out of business. They're just restructuring debt to buy time until new products hit the market.

what to do if your company faces this

1) buy/make small business

2) push all debt from big business to said small business

3)bankrupt said small business

4)profit

it worked for the guy who made the dalurian. ya the timecar.

this gets me wondering: what happens to steam copies of games of a producer when they go bankrupt? could you still buy them?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yes, but steam might not be able to put them on sale for the same reason it can't put kingdoms of amular on sale.

why is it that Amazon can though? The complete pack is supposed to be $12 from 12/21-12/23 (Origin redeemable). I don't know the story behind it or the developer so just curious.

i'm sure that steam had it in the works for a sale before this so have a pending contract.

The assets will most likely be split and purchased by other developers. So yes, you will still be able to buy them.

It depends what the new publisher wants. But when you already bought them you can still redownload it as often as you like, even when you can't buy them anymore.

I hope they don't sell their game rights to EA.

It looks like they weren't greedy enough...

Don't even SAY that. Come on Valve, use that ridiculous amount of cash you have laying around and buy Metro: Last Light

Hopefully a private investor picks them up at a low price and makes them a private company again.

It's Chapter 11 bankruptcy, guys. It just allows the company to restructure while getting time to not pay back their debt. They still retain control of the company. A third of companies that undergo chapter 11 bankruptcy survive so let's just hope for the best. Actually, they have a good chance to pull through as they have Metro: Last Light, The Stick of Truth and Company of Heroes 2 nearly finished.

Fuck SE. I used to have a lot of respect for them but they are heading down a mountain to join EA and Activision. Still, no hate just verging on dislike.

Red Faction series and Metro....Imo amongst the best games. The other games werent that bad either. I really liked THQ.

That is a shame, I spent a lot of my teen years playing their wrestling games on the N64. :(

I really hope they can recover in one form or another and continue to make great games.

Folks, I don't think you realize how Chapter 11 bankruptcy works. THQ isn't going bye-bye, the process is mainly a restructuring that could see them get better terms on their debt or have some of it forgiven. They could very well come out of it in a stronger position.

This isn't a Chapter 7 bankruptcy where they stop operations and all assets are liquidated. They are going to attempt to reorganize and create a plan to pay back their creditors over time.

Thanks for the heads up. I thought they were going to sleep with the fishes.

We don't know how much of their assets they're going to sell off in the process, but hopefully not everything. Or at least that those sold off find a good home. We'll have to wait and see.

So basicly they might sell some of their IPs do they have any studios they could sell?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They will sell their IP's and studios. IP's will be Red Faction, Darksiders, probably Metro, Saints Row and (I think) Company of Heroes. About their studios, there's a lot of them, 4A Games(Metro, but not sure about them), Volition etc.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Is it possibility that they will have some of those left when are the liabilities are covered?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's one of posibilities, If they will sold e.g. Metro and Saints Row, and will have enough "cash" to pay liabilities, they will stay in bussiness.
