So What you think?
I've just come from a Russian discussion, the majority is pissed there. My favourite comment states that the Doctor is supposed to be percieved as a mentor by others and "become the voice of reason" in difficult situations, and apparently it's impossible if the character is female. As for me, I'm uncertain if the actress will suit the role (as always when a new Doctor is announced), but that's it. Overall I'm just glad that it's finally happening, definite yay from me.

Huh, that parody sketch of the Doctor becoming a woman became a reality. I guess they're running out of ideas then.

This was my first thought, that they actually went and made that old joke canon:

Kinda makes me wonder if they are out of ideas and started to use some from one of the spoofs.

I don't see why would that put anyone over the edge unless he has problems with females and just looks for excuse to not put it straight. Master, one of oldest recurring villains in the series, regenerated into Missy 2 seasons ago and it has been decided not only among critics but fans as well that Missy is one of the best incarnations of Master and one of the best charactes in whole Capaldi era. So people had no problem with time lord turning woman for a long time already and now suddenly "it's different case"? bullcrap. I will either love or hate new doctor, but depending on acting, on screenplay, not on gender. It's not like there were not bad doctors in the past, male ones, so I'd much likely prefer great female doctor over cheesy weak male one.

I wish I hadn't check the comment section... Damn, some people are batshit crazy... As far as I love the new Doctor to be a woman, I was way more amazed by Capaldi... In the new serie we only had so far young & sexy male doctors, casting someone older and grumpy was way more ballsy (at least to me) than casting a beautiful woman.
And if the new doctor is half as good as Missy, it'll be great!

I thought Capaldi's casting was inspired. He suffered weak scripts and poor companion writing by Moffat but still managed to be my second favorite Doctor overall, after (Ten)nant.

It is mentioned in the show.
The 1st time when Eccleston regenerates into Tennant and another one when Tennant becomes Matt Smith. You'll notice the "I'm a girl??!" - can't wait to see Capaldi regenerating into a not-ginger-woman!

I have watched every single episode despite disliking it just to see what kind of nonsensical bull shit they'd throw at us. I could care less about the Doctor's gender.

Depends how you look at it. Joanna Lumley was the first woman to play an incarnation of the Doctor. The second was Arabella Weir in the Doctor Who Unbound Big Finish episode Exile.

wouldn't a girl that looked like a boy be more butch than average by principal?

Meh, I stopped watching something like 2 seasons ago.
It was not Capaldi's fault, I just don't think Dr.Who as a series is even remotely close to being good science fiction. I watched it for as long as it was somewhat enjoyable (there are some good or even very good episodes here and there), I stopped watching when it got boring and I stopped caring.
After Capaldi regenerates I may pick up the series from where I left off, but more for curiosity than for genuine interest.

tried to see Dr Who years ago, not my thing and doubt this is going to change that. i just love the tweets that basically bow down to "I dont hate women, but i hate a women on my Dr Who" mate... i think you do hate women... xD

As long as the new incarnation also gets an interesting personality, I'm perfectly fine with this.
12th doctor had some issues with that I feel. (Especially last season with Clara Oswald as companion suffered from poor writing in a number of episodes when it comes to that).
Anyway, Michelle Gomez already proved that a female version of the Master can work very well, so a female Doctor certainly isn't doomed to fail by default.

The comment section on that video is a dumpster fire... and it looks like the fire is spreading here.

Eh, I was hoping for Tilda Swinton. I read back before the latest season started that Jodie Whittaker, Tilda Swinton and one other I don't remember were all being considered. I like Swinton better than Whittaker, but since they took Who off of Hulu and Netflix I haven't really been able to keep with it as much. I'll catch up sometime.

Thank Christ! Now, we just have to get a female Batman, a female Spiderman, etc. and climate change and overpopulation will be things of the past.

Don't forget Spider-Gwen, to add more to the list :D

I have liked the actor's work on Broadchurch and an episode of Black Mirror, so I have high hopes. I will miss Capaldi.
Excited to have Chris Chibnall as the new showrunner too.
Anyone who has a problem with the new Doctor's gender, I have words from Peter Capaldi's Malcolm Tucker for you "Fuckity-bye."

There's hype and anti-hype at every actor reveal, so it's kinda normal, just now because it's a woman the directions of hype is a little changed. People forget that writing and acting is more important than how the actor looks like (or being m/f).
