Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Witcher series are the best "modern" RPGs
A little older, Baldur's Gate I and II are phenomenal. If you're ok with GOG, Planescape:Torment is hands down the greatest RPG ever made. Pillars of Eternity is a worthwhile "spiritual successor"
If you want to go old-school, Wizardry 6, 7, 8 is story-wise a trilogy that'll take about 250 hours to play (according to How Long to Beat). Feel free to skip 6. If you'd prefer a modern take on the formula, Legends of Grimrock I and II are a lot less frustrating.
If you'd prefer something a bit funnier, South Park: The Stick of Truth is quite refreshing.
I've heard really good things about Dark Souls, but haven't played it yet, so I can't say much about it.

Adding to dingbat's suggestions:
If you like post apocalyptic settings, I recommend the original Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout New Vegas (3 and 4 are not lore friendly and weak on the role playing), Wasteland 2 or Underrail.
Divinity: Original Sin is good with a few flaws. It's a little different in that you control 2 characters that interact with each other or it supports 2-player coop so a friend can play the 2nd character.
Any of the Shadowrun games.
Deus Ex, the original is one of my all-time favorite games. The 2nd one everyone loves to hate, but it's not that bad. The newer Deux Ex: Human Revolution was good, but still not as good as the original. By the time you run through those, the new one Deus Ex: Mankind Divided might be out.
Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines
Another older RPG gem found only on GOG is Arcanum. It has the best character creation and development in an RPG I've seen.

Haha it's not really scary, well, maybe the first time you see the native people is kind of scary, but once you get the hang of it and know how to deal with them it stops being scary and becomes kind of exciting, plus the graphics are great and I really like the crafting system, and even tho it's on early access it's not broken like the rest of this kind of games :b

Dying Light is awesome, trust Lucky Luke (that's me!) about that. :D

11/10 is not possible. When you set a limit, you must respect it and you can't go any further. It's like saying 110%. That's impossible. Ok, I know, I ruined it. :B Hehe, really great game. I love running on the roofs when crazy zombies are hunting me. :P

I've started playing (early access, so beware)Wayward recently and it's a good mix between difficulty and overall survival mechanics. You have stamina, health, hunger, and thirst. Lots of different food that affect everything in different ways. Poison and bleeding, probably other effects to be added. Lots of crafting recipes, which carry over after you die (so you "discover" recipes by having them pop up as available in your crafting tab e.g. getting enough stone to be able to build a furnace). Lots of different enemies, with some different items obtainable from most of them (common animals generally give the same stuff). An underground area, with treasure chests and difficult enemies, as well as very low visibility (so you either make a "fort" in the underground and have a fireplace, or get a torch or something like that). Stone, wood and sandstone crafting(albeit, sandstone is generally pretty useless other than for stuff like grindstone). Of course metals and more. You actually get damaged when not using tools to gather stuff, and certain tools are either effective or not effective when gathering from certain sources. Farming. Rogue-like iron-man death system, in which you die and your world gets erased, so pretty repetitive unless you last a long time.
Basically a difficult ship-wrecked survival game in which you need to look for treasure, but maaaan is the game lengthy and difficult. It's very easy to die. Bleeding goes until you die, and poison can pass over time but I've had the poison effect last a very long time, despite me thinking I could last through it, so I ended up dying. One of many deaths.

Apparently there's a free version, so check that out first!

Survival = play the most popular one since it will have the highest pop. None will ever leave EA btw so it doesn't matter :P.
Rpgs depends on what types you prefer.
CRpg: Pillars of Eternity or Baldur's Gate.
Jrpg: The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, Tales of series, Valkyria Chronicles are good.
SRPG (or is it trpg?): Disgaea
Arpg: Van Helsing or Victor Vran

If you have played Day Z it's a lot a like except you can't prone. It seemed kinda sketchy at first and I hesitated about getting in it but I honestly love it. I know it has bad reviews but I don't see any problem in it except there isn't any pve servers, I mean they have them but people will still kill you and raid you. The base building is kinda difficult because foundations, walls, ceilings etc. won't snap so you have to make sure to align everything right. Also, there is a sound bug that you can't tell how close a enemy is to you but I think they are working on fixing that. I enjoy it because I'm a storm chaser lol!! also the tornadoes will flip your vehicle but they won't harm you. I wish they would make it where they would pick you up, I think it would be really cool.

Actually scratch that. I don't recommend it. It's pay-to-win and perma-death.

Graphics are pretty good - but the cost is terrible lag. You don't want to play it though, the NPC's are morons. And the open-world is huge, but most houses have fake doors. Sure, there's houses with real doors, but people call the police whenever you walk in. That gives you like two stars, so you wanna be careful.

True. Everyone has a gun in this area though, so they'll blow one's balls off as soon as they walk in. If it wasn't for the perma-death, it might be fun to see how long you could survive in a huge shootout q:

I'd like to see a survival game where everyone has near limitless ammunition. Just imagine the chaos...

It would feel like a bulletstorm version of survival games. It could even have slower bullet velocity to allow survivors to dodge said bullets.

You had that in Quake 3 arena, except no survival bcs no one would try to gather herbs while having unlimited amounts of ammo... :D

Fuck right? I swear, it's just too realistic. So realistic, it's not even fun, and it's just a huge grind to keep playing q:

RPG: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale - http://store.steampowered.com/app/70400/
Survival: Novus Inceptio - http://store.steampowered.com/app/386590/

Honestly, it's "mostly" an economy game. Technically you're supposed to use your good stuff to equip your adventurers and go dungeondelving, but that bit of the game is pretty repetitive, since the main focus of the game is the store. A good game for sure, and i enjoyed it a lot, but if you're expecting an exciting adventure part of it, you might want to pass it by.

Novus Incepto is on Early Access. I won it here on SG. I started playing and I enjoyed what I have seen so far.
You mentioned that you have a low end computer. I'm afraid you won't be able to run it =(

You can play Terraria, since it has a bit of both.

Dont waste your money on early access games. other than that. i cannot suggest you any game :P cuz all survival games in early access. never coming beta or alpha. :)

A lot of "survival" games are "Survival Horror", which puts you in the middle of Resident Evil, Bioshock and games like that. I can personally recommend Bioshock, but i know Resident Evil probably is the bigger franchise.
If you want "Survival" without an overload of horror elements, you need to specify what other genres you prefer in them;
Roguelikes, such as FTL and Dungeon Quest aren't scary, but still proves very tough to survive,
Sandbox games like Minecraft, Creativerse (Minecraft clone), Terraria, ARK etc, will have a varying amount of survival elements, but will all require you to find a safe place to settle down, and expand from there.
For your RPG addiction, i'll assume you've already heard all the mainstream franchises (Final Fantasy, Dragon Age, Fire Emblem), so i'll try some less known games:
Chrono Trigger
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (someone is reinstalling right now =P)
Shadow Hearts trilogy
Revenant
Xenoblade Chronicles
Castlevania series (ok, pretty known, but not that much hype any more. could be unknown)

Subnautica and The Solus Project both look like great singleplayer survival.
Popular multiplayer ones you can also check out are RUST and ARK: Survival Evolved. Other ones I've been keeping my eye on are Empyrion - Galactic Survival, Hurtworld, and Savage Lands.
I haven't been playing much RPG's lately but hear me out. It is a blast "Role Playing" as a Galactic Alien Overlord version of Varys and Stannis, from Game of Thrones, in Stellaris. It is a 4X grand strategy game but it is very role playable. Not sure if that makes sense.

This War of Mine is best survival game I've ever played so far.

The first F.E.A.R. game is a pretty cool survival FPS game, not sure if you played that before though q: Cry of Fear is another good one, and it's a free game.
I don't play a whole lot of RPG's, but here's a few I can think of: System Shock 2, Binding of Isaac, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic... My wife tells me Undertale is a good RPG, too x)
