PMing through this site is kinda a lot of overhead with little to no benefit. Steam's already there.

That's a few off the top of my head. I'm sure I'll think up more later.

Even if the person forgot, or used a proxy and felt bad, whatever reason, you can't receive 2 copies. If you receive the first one, accept it, and then you win another but forgot to withdraw, you won't be able to receive it because Steam will 'error' the dude thats trying to send it to you saying that you already have it.
If after a week the prize isn't claimed, it should automatically choose a new winner.

The ability to see if people have replied to a post on the forum. i.e. like reddit and other forum type stuff.
Search by Mac, PC, and (Special) Either Only supports vista and 7, XP only, or search by Dx9, Dx10, Dx11
Search by DRM(loosely using the term) (GFWL, and Uplay/ubisoft) also a search parameter for games using Steamworks or games that have Steam achievements. I'm an achievement whore.
I like the above ideas for the ability to refuse giveaways if you entered 5 portal giveaways and somehow got 2, or if the site checked past wins to see if you've already won the game and rerandomed for you.
I read this from d3sdichad0 in another thread. The ability to flag games you already own so it either won't let you sign up for giveaways that you already own and/or hide giveaway games you already own. Could be useful when the day comes that there's 100 pages of giveaways going on.
The ability for the site to read your wishlist on steam and tell you if anything on your wishlist is currently open or soon to be open for giveaway.
Along with stats for profiles showing how many giveaways they've done maybe also have a "thanks stat" so when people have giveaways if people like the game or want to thank them even if they own the game already. They can "thank" them and that's a form of extra rep. They get to know that people are thanking them.

I support the search/filtering suggestion and all the points you brought up. Anything to make this site easier to find what you are looking for, going forwards would greatly be appreciated. I cannot imagine how well the current site would work/scale if there was say 4 or 5 times people and gifts, and how overwhelmed the new users would be.
The site achievements might be a compelling way to draw /some/ more users to the site and keep them participating in events.

especially with the points system id like to at least see the option to remove entries automatically if i win another copy of the game. it would be annoying if i won something while i was away but still lost the points from other drawings because i couldnt get back to the computer fast enough to remove the other entries for different copies of the game

I like that idea, I think it would go hand in hand with something to prevent you from entering giveaways for games you already own.

You mean a filter for http://www.steamgifts.com/manage/entries to let you see all the ones with specific terms?

I think he means have it highlight in another color or have the title prefix 'Entered In:' [Like 'New:' but in another color], or possibly an entered in custom pre or post game title icon to keep things looking clean. So you can quickly tell when you're scrolling through the open gifts, without having to go back to the entries screen.

This site needs a system to determine and show games (ranking) that are popular entries within the community (entry numbers vs price [over time (on a chart)], or something. [Cheap games might screw up how popular it is as the points system will limit entries on more expensive games]). Trending? A Stock market like view into the gifts on this site?
I don't mean this should be a system to force you should gift a game that has a high demand. Maybe just have it as resource for people who want to gift something that'll attract a lot of entries and people who just love statistics. Maybe have something to predict the community interest in new upcoming games, trending futures?
Maybe also show another line on the chart (or as a number if there is no chart) of people who have a game on their wishlist (if you add that feature [wishlist]). [Some people enter into entries for games not on their wishlist and some people miss or cannot enter but it's on there wishlist].

List what country the game was purchased in (possibly automatically base this off the account doing the gifting) Some games have gimped versions for Germany and Australia, so it would be a decent indicator of which version of the game you are getting.
