You damn heathens. This is why we can't have nice things.
KINGSMAN THE GOLDEN CIRCLE made more in it's 2nd weekend in America than Blade Runner did in it's opening weekend. Seriously. Fuck you guys.

I'm super excited to go see it, after hating the original for awhile (saw it when I was about 14), then rewatching it recently at 17, I realized just what an amazing film it is! Been looking forward to 2049 ever since that and I'm probably going this Tuesday.

The original was a commercial flop on opening as well, and for some of the same reasons. Also, it was about racism and slavery, topics that are, somehow, still controversial. And to make it worse, while he didn't direct the new one, Ridley "blowing big budgets looking for religion" Scott was definitely involved.

So, lots of reasons I'm not running out to see it right away. Still, I might get an AMC discount ticket tomorrow.

And have I mentioned that Deckard forced himself on Rachel? Bet you forgot that part, but he did. Not my cup of tea.

I'm going tomorrow! I probably wouldn't count it in my favorites but I definitely enjoyed the original a lot. And the fact that Denis Villeneuve directed it makes me infinitely more hyped. This man has yet to disappoint me

Saw It yesterday. I would watch It again just for pure joy If I could. I do think It´s a bit concerning that the movie is not doing well cause this one could lead to a third film, maybe there´s even work in progress with the writting, Idk...seems complicated but after 35 years we had a sequel so everything is possible, For the moment 2 are enough.

Tbh, you don´t need to see the first one to understand It, there´s enough feedback here. Still, you will want to check the1982 film just for Deckard´s background.

yeah, but, it just seems like a cash grab to have a sequel after 35 years

A cash grab how? It was the right time since new tech for cinema is available and the visuals are simply stunning. It´s not cheap CGI at all. More like, most remakes are real cash grabbers, last one: Stephen King´s "IT".

How is a sequel to a 35-year old movie that had a final resolution not a cash grab?

Aliens (1986) on DVD had so many scenes added and I bet any fan of the film appreciate this. At the time of the theater release they just couldnt exhibit such long movie. The Big Lebowski image quality was restored after they found an original print in Italy. It takes time to enhance movies, and you're not obligated to buy special editions at all.
Blade Runner 2049 is a worthy film. It's ok If you don't want to see It. There's always something for everybody.

An enhanced/restored version is very different from a sequel.

Maybe If you explain what makes this sequel a cash grabber cause It's hard to follow you on this.
I'm done with the site for today. Will check later.

I dunno if anyone know, but in some countries (like mine) this movie has some censored scenes. That's why I don't wanna go to cinema and watch, although I'd really like to.

So yeah, I have no clue about this movie, thank to regulations.

I'll probably be going this week to see it. I've been looking forward to it, but had an extremely busy weekend.
I'm somewhat obligated, since the original is one of my favorite movies.

op talking about the new one though. also i still cannot believe people are still supporting SJ after everything happened. Additionally, their honest trailer concept is all about bring a movie down and make it look bad. Original one is so much better than what they say about it anyway.

Box office results on release are overrated. Films like this earn millions through DVD, Blu-ray, streaming and merchandise or memorobilia. Also, this isn't a pop-corn movie for casual entertainment.
The first BR was initially a flop but especially through VHS gained it's following which was capitalized on later by DVD and Blu-Ray and Director Cut editions etc.
Edit: One more point. That viewing length. I can't be arsed to sit in a cramped environment for so long. I'll wai till it's release for Home Entertainment.

Love the original, but I can also understand why it's not that popular. It's a philosophical sci-fi, not really a fast-paced action which mainstream prefers.
Still hyped to go watch the new one this week though!

I know nothing about the new film other than a work college (that loves sci-fi) said he and half the audience fell asleep in the cinema watching this film.

I must admit the original although great...was very slow.

No money to watch it right now, but I plan to do so, eventually. The original was a cult classic. (i.e.Only those people who enjoyed "smart movies" could fully appreciate it.) The questions it raised and played with remain unanswered to this day.

I figure I would wait 20 years until the Super Director's Special Edition Cut "no Really Guys This is the last time" version is released. That way I can finally believe that Deckard is the last human left alive and everyone else is a replicant.

I'm planning to go tomorrow, I almost never go to the cinema on weekends because is considerably more expensive.
Also most people are not that familiar with Blade Runner, is more of a cult classic... and the original novel it's based on is far better if you ask me. Then you have the issue of it being a late sequel and all the distrust that carries.

Too many blade runners and not enough good script writers

Are you confusing the Blade movies with Blade Runner?
One was Wesley Snipes, the other was Harrison Ford.

If you are talking about the director's cut, which you would have to, since there was only 1 Blade Runner movie until recently. Then i would have to disagree, the Final cut is the best version. Certainly not the first theatrical release with the noir narration.
If you are talking about the Blade Series, then, i would have to disagree because Blade 2 is the best movie. The one with wrestling moves
:P

Thats ok, you just made it sound like there where multiple movies, when actually there was only 2.
wow, i could tell you about some really good writers, they do sure exist.

There are 2 major points here to make:

  • In those examples you have Stars wars, a group of writters sitting around the table figuring out a script that sells, they have straight up ignored the original creator.
Spielberg wasn't really satisfied being a mainstream director, i very much doubt he cares for what happens to indiana jones or jurassic park as long as he gets paid for it. I cant even point my figures to the writers , since it as always been a silly movie. It sure look more like the director´s fault,
Blade Runner is neither of them.

  • actors retire, not because there are no good writers, but because there are no good roles for them specifically, they are very often minor roles. The industry doesnt care for old people, and neither does the majority of the audience.
