I didn't realize they had so many games on there and from all the other services too like Bnet and Ubi. I played through Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes and it was very nice to see the Suikoden team making a spiritual sequel. Right now I'm lost in the Assassin's Creed franchise starting with Odyssey which is quite fun. I see Sea of Stars is on there as well and plan to check it out. Octopath Traveller 1 and 2, My Time at Sandrock and Portia, Pillars of Eternity 1 & 2, all the Shadowruns. So many games to play oh goodness. I'm somewhat reserved after using GFWL and losing everything when they closed down but having fun so far.

Also, keep in mind that the vast majority of Game Pass games stay on there for at least a solid 12 months, so even when you're done and cancel your subscription, remember to check in a year later in case there's enough new games to make resubscribing worth it.

With all the games on there on my wishlist I think I might keep a sub after the free time is up.

If you're willing to do Bing searches on the Edge browser, you can get Microsoft Rewards points that can be spent on additional Game Pass months without having to pay real money.

Oh wow I did not know that, thank you. I really dislike bing and edge but it could be worth it

GFWL, there's a name I haven't heard in a long time.

Yeah and I still have a sour taste in my mouth. I bought all the Fable Games and several others because it all seemed rather nice. Then they shut down and everyone lost everything with no kind of anything to show for it. I guess this is a very different thing since it's just a "rental", you don't actually own the games.

Oof, that sucks. I think I only had one game in GFWL that I got from a bundle, not including the Steam gamas that used it but got it patched before the shut-down, so I wasn't that annoyed when it went down.
That whole fiasco really put me off from ever spending any money on any store run by Microsoft, I only once bought something from the current Windows store and that was because it was a price bug where a full pack of game + DLC costed me less than 50 cents.

Yeah I binged a load of games when I had a sub for about 6 months a couple years ago.
Worth it if you do it every now and then, when there's a bunch of games you're interested in and don't "own" elsewhere.

Oh there are so many gems on there I would be interested in I only mentioned a few.

Game pass is pretty solid but you wrote this

I'm somewhat reserved after using GFWL and losing everything when they closed down but having fun so far.

Just about everything not owned by Microsoft is due to be removed eventually. Usually a year. There's exceptions with every statement like that, such as Forza Horizon 4 due to leaving due to licenses and delisting soon. Here's a document that I think covers all known history.

For instance, you mentioned Octopath Traveler, the first game was on there from March 2021 to Feb 2023. They brought it back with the sequel joining in June 2024. But that should give you a hint about what can happen. From my own personal list of things I played that are no longer there:

  • Nier Automata
  • Metro Exodus
  • Hades
  • Outer Wilds
  • Final Fantasy XV
  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
  • Superhot
  • Hello Neighbor

Gamepass is great but, in my opinion, it's one of those use it for things you don't want to own or just want to sample and rebuy on a different platform. Like AC: Odyssey, is a fairly long game from what I understand, you may wish to just pick it up on a Steam/Ubisoft sale. Costs less than a month of gamepass (assuming you aren't on a promo/free month, if you are, do ignore me :)

I got 2 years of gamepass ultimate for about $85 through conversion shenanigans, so I have until July 2025 to see my final stats, but starting from August 29, 2023, this is where I stand. This is not expressly directed at you, but I was thinking about this earlier so this is as good of a place as any to write it haha.

Game Release price Historical low Bundled yet? Willing to buy separate at HL? Hours played
Starfield $70 $39.19 no no 323
Palworld $30 $22.49 no maybe 56
Another Crab's Treasure $30 $23.99 (or 22.49 if MS store) no no 28
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II $50 $44.99 ( or 39.99 MS) no no 10
Humanity $30 $17.99 no no 27

So far, even with only 5 games in the year, I think I got fair value at the reduced price. It wouldn't have been a good deal for month to month subscribing if I had been on full ultimate pricing, especially after the recent price increase.

But hey OP, despite all of this, let me not let you think I'm 100% on top of perfect savings. I'm one of those who bought the Premium Edition upgrade for Starfield (not the game just the upgrade to go along with gamepass). And almost a year later, I have nothing to show for that $30 and by the time the dlc comes out, I'm not even sure I'll want to return to it :)

tl;dr I recommend playing short games or unknown genres on gamepass for best value. But you know what's best for your game time so don't let me steer you away if that's what you think is best for you.

I'm really enjoying AC:O even though it's UBI and requires constant connection. I don't plan to do everything just mostly the main story. I'm really not a 100% kind of person, mainly because there are some things that require dozens if not hundreds of hours of grinding for some digital trophy nobody really cares about. Even if I only played a game a month that's not bad for the price.

I also started with Odyssey, but I kind of regretted not playing in the normal order with Origins which came out first. The 3 games, with Valhalla, form a trilogy.

I just remember hearing so much about Odyssey so I thought I would check it out and I love it. I remember past games it would suck you out all the time back to the future and when you would go back like years would go by and that really broke the immersion but Odyssey has been so smooth. I may play the others at some point.

If you also use Steam to get games, take into consideration that you can use a browser extension called Available on Game Pass, which will tell you if a game is on GP, if it was or even the upcoming games. I am not the developer but I've used it over the years and find it really useful.

That's very true, I made the mistake of pre-ordering Starfield and it's on Game Pass

Tbh, considering the price, selection and number of games, and the value, I'll take the game pass over Humble monthly's random 8 game assortment any time

I've been thinking the same and with them changing the lineup all the time it seems pretty worthwhile. And you pretty much know the lineup vs the random grab bag of humble.

True. Also they announce game additions months in advance, as well as games being retired, which allows you to plan around it if you want to go month by month instead of getting an annual sub.
I know a lot of people here prefer having games in their Steam library forever and I get that but really how many games do I have in my library that I will keep replaying? Not that many.

I used to be the sentimental type and go back to play the original X-Com and the first 2 Suikoden games and FF VI but not so much anymore. I just play through and if I really enjoy it try to do most of the side content then when I'm done shelve it. You know the saying, Can't take it with you when you go.

PC Game Pass has been a treasure trove for me, I game a lot so I need a big source of games
And it is very cheap in my country the monthly price is equals $2 (will be what equals $4 starting next month) nothing can match that for me.

My only problem with it that most games that have DLCs, those DLCs are not included in the subscription .. as an achievements hunter I find that very irritating
Would be nice if they make a higher tier that would include all dlcs

took some time off from AC to play airborne kingdom and offworld trading company since they are both small games and getting removed from game pass. Both were decent but nothing special. Apparently game pass ultimate has some more games but maybe that is because ultimate includes console and I only have a pc? I know that a month of pc pass is 7750 points and ultimate is 12000 but like I said I don't have a console and there's plenty on the pc pass. I've made 2600 points so far so guess I can get some gift cards with whatever extra

here is a game pass code that theoretically can be redeemed until tomorrow (16th of september), but for me it is not accepted, perhaps a first subscriber only?:
2FWDY-PXWVR-637MX-GDFKK-YCG**
the last two characters are a sea and a zed.

Check the instructions that came with your code. You might need to redeem it on a different web page or device, or you may be ineligible to redeem this code.
Probably can only be redeemed by the person who found it or possibly some kind of region restriction.
I've enjoyed game pass so much I went and got a cheap used series S and upgraded to ultimate.
AC Origins was pretty generic but Odyssey was great and I have not been able to walk away from Valhalla. Maybe I did not like Origins as much because it played out like an urban romance novel. Most of the characters seemed pretty forgettable as well.
