I made a month-long pause between watching seasons 1 and 2, and that apparently was enough to get confused. So yeah, rewatching is kinda mandatory in this case.

That depends. How would you feel about Nordic noir that's also a sci-fi movie about time travel and is in German? Also, the number of important characters connected by various family ties is considerable, and almost each one of them is played by 2-3 actors. You can and will get confused at some point. Meanwhile, it's also unique and absolutely awesome.
