I don't really use or look into "trainers", cheats and other workaround when I play but I've been handed this "gold membership for a year worth blah blah" card from Lootboy and I had no idea that thing even was a thing so I was wondering what are the thoughts and experience about trainers and the likes, Megadev and others, around the SG community.

I didn't activate it or really plan to but I started looking into it and it seems rather vague in what it does.

Bear in mind I don't condone cheating of any kind, nor condemn it and I'm totally up for a debate on the "cheat" gaming style. Just be gentle because I haven't had a full night of sleep in a couple of weeks so I may be slow on the uptake.

i like to mess up some games like gta sa with mods and cheats ... in online games it's different ... i want to compete myself with others and there are cheats and trainers the biggest no go you could have ...

Honestly I don't even get people who cheat in online multi player games. Most of the time it's obvious they are cheating so what do they get out of it? There's no money to gain from it. All they could get is bragging rights but since it's obvious they didn't earn their wins, they don't even get that and they look pathetic.

It's the lowest form of trolling. They're just cheating to rob other people of their just deserved wins and enjoyment.

But sometimes I spawned so many that the game would just crash :(

Haha Gods problems, right? Never tried that in Skyrim but now I feel I almost have to.

My stance is pretty clear, as long as your cheating does not affect other players (single-player activity), you have all rights in the world to have fun with the product that you've bought, and if cheating increases that fun then by all means you should go for it.

In my case, cheating ruins the whole fun since the game is no longer played like expected to, and I no longer have fun from achieving my own goals if I can just edit a few variables to my liking, especially as a programmer that is capable of doing that without any trainer or cheat code to begin with, so I just don't cheat. I didn't always have a stance like that, especially when I was younger (and inexperienced in this field), I had a lot of fun from blowing up everything I could in GTA SA or similar games. If cheating brings fun to you then I can't see anything against, as long as it's SP and does not affect the experience of other players.

Live and let live.

Yeah I'm pretty much the same.
Even a single game, it's a competition with yourself. If you are stuck in a game and you can't finish, and if you can use a cheat to get yourself past that point and finish the game on your own, it's ok but it's like walkthroughs in that regard. Using one to get unstuck, cool, but following one to the letter, there's no point in playing really.

I remember using saved games to pass a level if I just couldn't get there on my own but that pretty much went out the window with Steam (I think? I haven't really been tempted since I've been playing on Steam)

If cheating brings fun to you then I can't see anything against, as long as it's SP and does not affect the experience of other players.

Exactly. Whatever's fun for you as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else's fun. Which could be a life philosophy, really, gaming or not.

Never really heard of Megadev before, I googled it and now I know. lol
Is that really needed?
I'm personally ok with CheatEngine if you want to gain more control over your single player games, and it's very useful if you want to for example slow down or speed up the gameplay with SpeedHack.

Right? Never heard of it either lol (which I guess is why they are using Lootboy to advertise their premium?)

Ooh CheatEngine, I remember that one. Can't remember what I used it on way way back but I'm pretty sure it didn't do much. I think it was more tinkering with a saved game.

and it's very useful if you want for example slow down or speed up the gameplay with SpeedHack.

Interesting. Never heard of that before. I can think of a few games I could have used some Bullet Time lol but yeah again, no harm no foul. As long as it doesn't ruin the game for you or others.

Yes this is pure promotion from LootBoy for this slightly shady Megadev site and I think it's absolutely needless and only tempting for newbies and unexperienced players.
CheatEngine is actually pretty popular and also OpenSource and as long as you use it only for your single player games, I see no problem at all. ;)

Yeah it seems a bit shady to make people pay for cheats, doesn't it?
Especially since most of those are probably copied from someplace else anyway.

In single-player games, you do you. Would take a very petty person to complain about it, I'd say. I had to use a trainer in Stalker Clear Sky to get past a situation where I was in an instant death point. I tried getting past it for 15 minutes, but I just kept dying and the loading screens made me aggrevated. The previous save was 2 hours ago and there were no autosaves in that bunch. So, I downloaded a mod, cheated my way past it and I'll admit, I cheated through the entire part because I had already done it and I was just trying to beat the game after I had already almost finished it, but had to quit due to the game having a gamebreaking glitch.
So overall, I skipped past around 3-4% of the game with cheats. I saw the story, I still beat it relatively normally. The only thing that happened was that I didn't waste time as much.

So yeah, don't feel bad for using trainers if you think it's necessary to increase your enjoyment of the game. It's your game. You do you :)

I've used trainers when I was a kid at single player/offline games, but at some point I came to realize "now, how is this any fun?"

The story is not good enough for the translation machine and I can not tell clearly.
Mod after single play and cheat after game completion.
I can understand that area.

However, in the whole multiplayer, "cheating" is not permitted.

BOT? Macro? Cheater?
All are subject to the death
In particular, nuisance caused by Multiple account registrations is fatal to both operators and users. Next, I will give you the right to be born with your head alone.
I have been raising such a problem on the Internet for about 20 years.

Young people also wondered if they should take away the right to play network games.
The actual cause was many other people.

This is the figure of people hiring people to spend tens of millions of money, annoy, attract players, and do activities.
Anyway, please enjoy the game! Instead, "embarrassing others" is like the "joy" of such people, and the game operator will silence to the incoming big money, giving up control.

And, what has changed only the "skin" of the game that has disappeared from the old is released.
And history is repeated.

Oh, were a trainer, right?
Is it not necessary?
The game to enjoy may be "hard work".
However, I understand that some people like "Suffering".

I feel that way roughly.
I'm sorry if the translation is wrong.

Yeah some people seem to use cheats in multiplayer just to troll other players.

Travian was awful.
For the major alliance "for securing the feeding ground" ...
Create an account with the purpose of discarding small alliances, "collect only people, declare war on other alliances and suddenly move the alliance leader to other alliances", "from the moved destination alliance to another alliance "Doing acts of terrorism," those who arrived in multiple accounts who did such acts were mixed in.

And most are alliances that have been sacrificed without knowing what to do.
The temporary leader was elected, the former leader reported from the log that he was an injustice, and compensation work was troublesome to other alliances that were attacked.
The attack was also attacked by a major alliance, but succeeded in inviting multiple defense troops to the other major alliances as "training of heroes" and killed several tens of thousands of main forces.

After that, we reached "TOWER(WoW)" battle and construction.
However, until the last minute, there was no end to the fraudster's blockade.
Still, there is a suspicion that one TOWER's single sitter has been "acquired for money".
Many soldiers were starved.
The tower manager sitter intentionally drained the food.

It took about a year and a month.
The incident and another careless mistake caused a defeat in the Tower Lv 100 race on a close note.
Multiplay games that can be cheated are approaching from "hard" to "impossible". To enjoy.

Heh I didn't have enough sleep to be creative so I borrowed from Scott Pilgrim vs The World (a must-see if you haven't seen it yet)
I am under strict orders from my lady not to use "dudette" because she feels it's reductive. I never question her when it comes to vocabulary.

But I'm not really into this cheating stuff, so that's probably why :3

Lol yeah I always thought a trainer was a big dude that makes you feel bad about not being in shape and kicks your ass into lifting weight but I guess not :P

I've never seen the point in cheating in games myself, since I feel like it would rob me of the experience I paid for, but I also don't particularly care what others do in their own single-player games that they paid for.

No blood, no foul, as far as I'm concerned.

Regarding the poll question, it depends on the usage. If it's a hard game and you get stuck, and the game forces you eventually (after using up all "continues") to start from the very beginning, it can be frustrating to go through the whole game again which you already can handle, just to get to the one passage again where you got stuck initially. And then fail again. Repeat. A trainer allows you to train those critical sections without wasting time on repeating the whole game. Eventually you are able to do all sections without trainer.

Yeah I remember my lady's face the minute I mentioned what a trainer was. We've played Cuphead together for about 10 minutes until she threw the controller at me so I'm sure she wouldn't mind experiencing the game a different way, like... playing it lol
But yeah that's pretty much my view as well. It can be frustrating to be stuck at a point in a game either because you didn't do what you should have 5 hours of gameplay ago or because you just can't pass a particular event, and then you miss the rest of the game.

I used to mess around with a trainer in GTA:VC, modify the gravity, speed of the car, rate of fire and all kinds of stuff, it was fun
and some op mods for Max Payne 2, like nuclear nades and shit
