Hey guys just wondering how does people manage their large sized games??? modern games is like 20 GB.... I have a crappy internet cuz im cheap... but so the main question is.. isn't bad to leave your pc on for few days??? (in a long run) and it takes me 2 or 3 days to download them.

I leave mine on overnight when downloading pretty often.
It's fine for the computer- in fact starting up and shutting down your computer a lot each day is bad for it.

Yup. The most of the times mine is running for 2-3 days straight. Closing and opening the pc is too mainstream :)

just make sure you dont have any overheating problems and stuff like that. You dont want to catch a fire while you are asleep.

It's not bad, but you sure should take care of your computer. It's okay to leave your computer on, but if its a 20GB game then you may not be able to handle it. 2 or 3 days is a long time and your battery life will wear down, which happens anyway when a computer is plugged in. If its a PC it shouldnt hurt much, if its a laptop, still very little harm

Battery life only wears down with the half life of lithium ions, or on older batteries partial charging.

What 20Gb game are you trying to dl/install? because i'm fairly sure most games i've seen are more along the lines of 5-10Gb.

I have the same problem as you, and let me tell you what I do. I never download during the day, only at night. Before I go to bed, I put whatever I need downloading during the night, for 3 hours. Sure it will take a few days, but the electricity bill wont be nice.

Here in Australia, we have AWFUL internet speeds, and very limiting caps. I remember about a year or two years ago I bought about $700-800 worth of games (during a Steam sale so only about $150), and it totaled up to about just under 200GBs of downloads. It was not an easy process. I had to leave my laptop on overnight, and then in the day take it with my and download on the school's even worse and unstable connection, so I could make sure that I wouldn't break my cap when I continued to download from home.

It took a lot of organising to stagger out my downloads over a few months, and thankfully Steam has resumable downloads so I could keep swapping around games that were nearing completion.

wow. Luckily I don't have a cap. sorry for your situation.. that sux monkey balls. thanx for sharing your story. Same here I tallied up my steam games and it is worth about $1000 but of course I bought it all discounted price. Total download size is 233.94 GB

My last PC was on for over a year and a half. This one's just hit a month, barring any necessary restarts. I want to turn it off, but I don't really have that choice unfortunately.

PC: permanently on. Only issue is that the PSU fan has dropped and it's grinding on the covering, sounds awful. Unfortunately bit tight on cash atm.

Internet: In SA we have some of the worst speeds in the world at the highest prices. To give you an example: my line is a 1Mbps and I pay $50 a month. I get shaped and throttled and they've recently sent out letters saying that anyone doing more than 40Gb a month will have their line speed reduced. So, dunno what I'm going to do about these massive downloads in the future (and I still have to install Crysis 2 and Dead Space...)
