Would you like to have a feature as described?
This makes sense, and would save the periodic questions about low CV yield even if most of us don't need the help.
(Better still, let people enter the name of the game they want to give away. Then bring up a little message that says what category it falls into. If you extended this to allow for the titles of free games to be entered, but retained the current policy of not letting the GA be created, that would get rid of a lot of the "why can't I give away this game?" posts as well.)

Nope. Retroactive bundle status will still be the source of many threads :/

Ah, good point. It could still help with some of the issues though. (I've seen people irate multiple times because they didn't understand the CV yield system.)

Actually, it would help with games which are known (to the system but not to the giver) as being bundled. Of course games marked as unbundled can still go down in value, but if the "bundled" flag is already set, then the value will not change much (only if the base value changes).
So: marked bundled -> 15%. marked non-bundled -> maybe 100%. :)

The bundle list is not always up to date, so a GA might show an unbundled value, which is lowered a day later.
You point about 5 copies. I think it should be manageable to keep track of one's own GAs - or you are giving so much, you do not care for CV.

Regarding the 5 copies rule:
There might be people interested in the expected calculated value for the 7th, 15th, 20th giveaway of the same game.
Furthermore: There are some games I already gave away that showed up in other bundles later (well, actually, nearly 100% of games are bundled several times over time) and I'm not always sure whether I already gave this game or maybe a similar version (like standard version and then GOTY version etc.) - so I might reach the 5th giveaway without being aware.

What would be your alternative with the 6th+ copy, if you were told the CV yield would be lower? Create GAs on another site, trade, ...?

Possibly. Or give it to a friend or post the key in a discussion thread. Or refrain from buying another bundle for giveaways, when I find out that I already gave some of the games several times. Or ignore and create a GA nonetheless.
At least it would help me to understand why the point gain in the end will be lower than I might have expected. :)

I don't think it's a good idea, mainly because of 2 things:

I see your point, especially with the "make the most CV". Surely, the idea of this site is to give and to love giving, and many of us do just that.
However, we already get so much information in this direction, like the calculated CV for bundles like here or here - there you already get a pretty good idea of the cost-benefit ratio. So it's not something that's not already available, it would only be more convenient.
The rants about price drops will not be avoided for sure (because many people just don't read rules and hints). But at least if a game is already marked as bundled the value will be given as low so people are not surprised.

Maybe this usersrcipt will be useful for you

Its not about CV value but it shows bundled/nonbundled status in many places including GA creation list.

This is a really cool script, I love it. It does not solve the problem I posted here, but it gives a lot of useful additional information. And the "bundled" status is listed, so at least for any giveaway being created I now know whether it was bundled before without searching the bundled-list. :)

Not a bad idea, really, but I'd rather dev time and server load go to other things.
Also, you'll have folks complain about retroactive bundling even more vehemently, because "the site said I'd get full CV!"

I would love to have a feature which shows the expected value (real CV) of giveaways I create already on the creation page. Currently, when I enter the name of the game, I click on the Steam link to find out the current base value and then - if it's a bundled game - calculate 15% of it in my head, before I actually start entering the keys, etc.
However, for some games I'm not sure whether they were bundled before (I know there's a list, but I check it only once in a while), and the base price is known to the system, anyway, as it generates the number of points to participate in the giveaway from it. Furthermore it would help some people doing giveaways of games already gifted 5 or more times. And maybe it would be easier for some people to decide this way which game to give to which group or to the public, depending on the value.
Essentially, the calculation of the real CV, which is done by the system in the end anyway, could be done at the beginning and displayed when creating a giveaway.
So my suggestion would be to show this additional value ("expected real CV"), that would give a hint how many points you would receive if everything goes as expected. Of course the base value can change in the meantime, and the game may still be retroactively marked as bundled, etc., so it might not be accurate (and thus marked as estimated only), but it would be a good thing to know.
What do you think?
