I just got done playing through Planescape:Torment for the first time. Amazing game. I would put it in my top 3 RPGS maybe even my top pick.

What is yours?

In order, with extra weight given for nostalgia :P

Xenogears - if it wasn't for the unfinished portion of the second disc it would probably be better known.
Vagrant Story - so dark and gritty with a great weapon mod system.
Final Fantasy Tactics - job system + amazing story
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy 6/7 - I'd probably put FF6 a bit higher, but FF7 made me feel some crazy emotions the first time I played it.

Special mention to Exile: Escape from the Pit.

If it wasn't an MMO, sure.

So you don't consider MMO's to be RPG's? I'd personally go as far as to say they can be the very best way to roleplay in games

I never said that.

If the game is not allowing me to fully roleplay the way I want because I have to play with other people (like teaming up with 24 other players just so I can experience Illidan destroying the Burning Legion) then the MMO aspect, for me, outweighs the RPG aspect. If it was solely RPG with no MMO involved, it'd be my top pick.

But there are even strict roleplaying servers are there not? I tried out the Horde side on an RPG server many years ago and although too strict for my personal taste I found it quite refreshing interacting with people "in character" so to speak. I guess there are problems with finding the right company for one's own particular taste though.

For me it's more like the MMO aspects enhances the RPG aspects of the game than the other way around.

Torment too. Probably followed by Fallout 2 and Baldur´s Gate 2. Wizardry 8 and Arcanum were great too, though I never managed to finish them (I still have the saves though).

Fallout: New Vegas, closely followed by Dark Souls and The Witcher 3 (and I haven't even played Blood and Wine yet)

Name! Job! Bye!

Jokes apart, Ultima 7 is still unmatched in terms of world interactivity. Together with Ultima 6 and Ultima 7 Part II it's my favourite RPG of all times.

I liked Baldur's Gate too, but it's got way too much drama for my taste.

Planescape: Torment. I feel redundant, but I'm not going to lie. It's so good that the game that explicitly set out to copy it (Tides of Numenera) ended up as a good game that's disappointing precisely because it fails to live up to it.

Second place goes to Baldur's Gate 2. Third place and beyond are a toss-up, lots of good games. I haven't played the Witcher series yet (just a small bit of the first one).

Probably the Castlevania series <3

Favourite out of all of them is Lords of Shadow (2013 one). I can remember almost everything about the game and that is so, so rare for me nowadays <3

What part?

I think the backgrounds are beautiful:https://imgur.com/gallery/9JqPC
And the lowpoly 3D models have a certain charm to them. Other then the faces, they generally only use vertex colors which many other games from that era used to save texture memory (Mario 64 for example).

Also, the game is meant to be run at 4:3 aspect ratio on a CRT or with a CRT filter (see Retroarch), playing it in any other way will make it look much worse. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I don't have an example image of FF7 handy, but here's what FF6 looks like using a CRT filter: http://abload.de/img/retroarch-0723-16525513uwf.png

Zoomed out they do for sure ;) I think the game didn't age too well, so let's hope the Square/Enix does indeed release a remaster one day.
