Hi there.

So yeah, what's a popular game that you're sure you would never want to play?

Lets keep this interesting and avoid games that are:

  • Still popular BUT aren't around anymore or those that are hard to come by
  • Games in which you don't have the console for (and no plan to buy the console)

Feel free to list as many as you want and include the reasons why.

Here are some games that popped up right away while I thought of this question:

  • Terraria

    • I don't like platformers, especially 2D ones. I was a huge fan of Minecraft back then so the release of Terraria left a bad taste in my mouth 'cuz it was a combination of two things I hate -- Rip-off games and 2D Platformers. Spare me the trouble by saying Terraria is already a 'unique game in its own' now because I don't care.
  • Any Mario game

    • I have never finished a Mario game before (well, I did finish World 1-1 so give me props). Don't get me wrong here. I love Ninentendo (I have owned a Gameboy Light, Color, SP, DS, and own a 3DS XL now) but platformers aren't my thing and even if an interesting Mario game comes out with a different genre, I'm pretty sure I still won't try it because I have no connection and interest with the plumber and his universe whatsoever.
  • World of Warcraft and pretty much any MMORPG

    • The thing that bugs me about MMORPGs is that it creates an environment where effort = prestige BUT a very common type of prestige. It's like what that villain said in The Incredibles (btw Pixar, SEQUEL? C'mon!), "when everyone's super, no one will be." You get me right? RIGHT?
  • EDIT: League of Legends (I can't believe I forgot about this)

    • I really just hate it's art design. The color and graphics are just so eye-melting for me. I'm not going to pry on its gameplay mechanics. It bugs me but it's not the main reason why I will always avoid LoL.

I'll try to remember other titles to add in my list.
One last thing, no pitchforks please. Thanks :D

The Last of Us and every other console exclusive game. Call of Duty games because I won't pay that much for them.

Awesome!! Thanks for the heads up on that sequel!

Back on topic though. I've always felt that I should give Last of Us a try. I have a PS3 but it's way on the bottom of my To Buy WHEN I Have Money List. I'm still working on that 'when I have money' part.

No problem.

Loads of people are saying you should but I'm just not really interested. We always joke about it being a movie anyway. I might watch someone play through it, or skim through a playthrough, for the story but I can't see myself playing it.

COD: Ghosts. I have a few FPS games on my account but they're not my favourite genre. I have no intention of buying games from the the most expensive series in that particular genre. Besides, even people who like Call of Duty games don't rate this one very highly.

Newer FIFA games. I like football as a sport, but other than Football Manager I lost all desire to play football games a good few years back. They didn't seem to change much from year to year, not that FM does either, but then I haven't bought that since 2010. For FIFA I don't think I got it since 2008.

Any MOBA. They're just not for me.

WHY???? GTA IV is THE TITS. It's protagonist, Niko Belic is one of the best characters in gaming history. Much better than those boring stereotype cliches from the fifth game.

Meh. I'm interested in GTA V only because of the graphics, so if I got it for free I would try it briefly.

Character arriving in a new country, hoping to start a better life, cliche #1. Hoping it turns out as the american dream, cliche #2. Character who doesn't see anything good about his situation until a girl (Kate) comes into the story, cliche #3. He has no emotion at all, people die, he doesn't give a shit. Character who can't let go of what happened 20 years ago, cliche #4. If you decide to kill Darko, he shoots him once for every person he got killed, cliche #5. Niko's basically everyone's bitch throughout the game with no attempt to even try to take matters into his own hands. Yells like he's out of his mind during shootouts, cliche #6. All he does is whine about how everything goes wrong, pull a depressed face and doesn't really care much about what happened to Roman's cab building, especially after that being his fault. And since this is already a wall of text and I don't particularly feel like pushing it further..

tl;dr: worst and most boring GTA protagonist ever made, makes a depressing city even more depressing, Claude has more character than him. I can't think of anything good about Niko. Also, that sprint animation? cringe

Or you were just being incredibly sarcastic about it, which I really hope so

I have zero knowledge about Football but I surprisingly got addicted in a football game on my iPad about two years ago. It bored me after two months of casual playing though...

I did play some football games on the dreamcast when i had like 7 and i did have fun with it, but only for playing against my friends and was like playing it for 10 minutes and don't play it for quite a time, i know people who buy religiously every new game but i don't have that desire probably because i suck on this games and if i would choose some game to play against someone i would pick something like bomberman, mario kart or a random fps like golden eye or quake

Assassin's Creed - Played like the first 3 missions of AC1 and then I gladly removed it, never to play it again. Altough I love this kind of games, I just can't get myself to like this series.
Team Fortress 2 - As long as I have CS 1.6/CS Source/GMOD, I see no reason to play TF 2 other than farming items.
NFS games post Undercover (2008) - I lost interest in NFS the second I played Shift, and Criterion taking of development was the last straw.
Dragon Age - As much as I love RPGs, I can't see Dragon Age as one of them.
Saints Row - It's a no no. Why? Because GTA.(and because I don't like the characters, the combat & driving, the fictional world.
Battlefield - Not interested in this kind of multiplayer FPS and I know Battlefield doesn't shine when it comes to singleplayer campaign.
Final Fantasy - Giant swords and anime characters. There are also just so many of them I don't even.
Mass Effect - I don't like SF games that take place in space and/or have aliens and spaceships. The only exception to this is Dead Space, which I really like for some reason.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown - ↑ See Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
Many others which I don't remember right now or are not worth mentioning.

I think Dragon Age (Origins specifically - I have no interest in playing DA2), is a great title in the RPG genre. I'm not a huge fan of RPG though so I can't really tell.

Is it the fighting mechanics that bugs you? I'm interested in your take on this :)

I don't like the party system and the fact that while in combat you have to pause every couple seconds to queue attacks. I like to have only one character that I can focus on and roleplay with. The reason I said I can't see DA as an RPG is because when I hear of RPGs I think of Diablo, Gothic, TeS, Fable, Fallout, The Witcher.

That's how almost all Rpgs used to be, you had a party of players and it had turn based combat and I would say that is a basic definition of a traditional rpg. In my eyes i consider all the games you listed to be action rpgs. I assume you mean fallout 3/new vegas because fallout 1+2 is turn based.

About FF: Just wondering, is that your only reason? I found many ppl not liking it for the first hours then get addicted as hell. I personally love FF (except for everything after X and the online mmo) you should give a another try at least on VII, X or VIII (but the first 2 are those that tend to be liked more for the story).

The Last of Us, the Uncharted series, and the Red Dead Redepmtion series are all games I'd be interested in playing but I still won't invest in a console so they're pretty much out of the question.

Also MOBAs.

TES V Skyrim.
I explored Morrowind for hundreds of hours, but Oblivion could only keep my attention for around 2 hours and I have no interest in Skyrim whatsoever. It seems like The Elder Scrolls games only lose features with each next instalment and I don't have time for open world sandboxes anyway.

grabs pitchfork Terraria is a unique game in its own right!!!11

Seriously though, all popular MMOs (RPG/FPS/MOBA/whatever)

any of the Final Fantasy series (no pitchforks also counts for me?)

DayZ

Dark Souls

Oh, and pretty much every sports game, racing, soccer, basketball, etc.

can't think of more right now...

Final Fantasy!? takes your pitchfork and points it at your throat

Just kidding, I have never finished a Final Fantasy game before (made it halfway of FF7, woohoo) BUT I'm enjoying Fire Emblem: Awakening very much and I might buy Bravely Default soon. In that sense, I wouldn't mind a FF game on my 3DS if one comes out that's worth trying.
