I don't know if this was put into consideration before, but I see a lot of people that enter giveaways seem like they only care about winning the game, despite actually wanting to play it or even installing it.

When I scroll down at the latest received gifts, Its always the people who have thousands of entries and 10-23-83 gifts won.(and most of them have been here for less than a year)

I only enter the giveaways that I actually want to play, but the thought of the giveaway ending, and some popular entry whore winning it and not even being interested in the damn game is just a real kick in the balls.

And to the people that actually dedicate $50 to make a gift, and then instead of having it won by someone who would enjoy it, it gets tossed away by someone that wasn't even interested in the first place. I mean, Its just basically throwing money away for nothing.

Couldn't there be a system on SG that could track the registered user's playtime and make it so if someone wins a game, they have to have a minimum of 1 hour play time dedicated to said game within a designated period of time, and if they don't, their rights to enter a giveaway should have some sort of restriction added, and have it increase the more they continue not playing their prizes.

Just a thought, what's the point of wanting to win something so bad if you don't even want to play it? Don't enter every random giveaway you see until your points are empty, I guarantee you will not be happy if you end up winning something like that.

Think about it.

I see you've won some prizes, some of them are Orcs must die, Faerie solitaire, Galactic arms race, but I don't really seem either of them on your steam profile.

You've also won Bioshock 2 and Deus Ex:Human Revolution, but they both seem to have 0hours of playtime.

Some of your other wins also have a low play time.

Explain.

And with this restriction people who win games will simply put the game to run for 1 hour without playing it.

Also you need to realize the fact that if some people are whoring for sales, like in summer sale buying tons of games that they probably won't ever play then it would obviously be more rampant with free games.

And I know I have lots of games with only little play time, but that' only because I don't have time to play games for now.

You should consider your freetime before entering a giveaway, then.

It's winner's right to not play the game. Not fair to those who really really want the game (like I wanted Frozen Synapse) but you might as well get used to unjust world.

I can only speak for myself, but... I have a ton of games on Steam that I have barely touched BECAUSE my backlog of other games on various other platforms is so huge that it's taking me forever to play through them. Eventually, I will come back to my PC and Steam and clear out all the games.

Sure it is. When people would want to enter a giveaway from now on, they'd have to agree to the conditions. I think Its fair.

Don't think you can play them? Don't enter, let someone who actually wants the game to win.

It think it would do justice.

i think its not fair that poeple can enter a giveaway without a cv of 50 Dollar and now what you saying about that. Its easy to make points like that when you are not in this position.

I agree with you that entering for games you never want to at least give a try is bad form.
I also think that if you really, really want a game, you should consider buying it yourself and not be upset you did not get it free here.

I completely disagree with your entire premise.

I won Bioshock here, and played it almost entirely in Offline Mode. As a result, I've finished the game (and loved it - it's been something I'd been meaning to play for a while), but only have 0.7hrs of playtime.

Similarly, the winner may intend to play it at a later date, but have irl commitments at the time.

You can't punish users simply because they don't have registered play-time.

Also, seriously, THIS topic, with THAT username? Yeah, subtle.

Not even everyone gives a F about the epeen, i don't. Though i like collecting games on steam, and i usually get to a good part of them.

And with that attitude of yours i expect to see more threads in the future saying "OMG I CAN'T WIN ANYTHING, THIS IS FAKE!", most of the games given are indies, and alot of people still don't like indies.

Oh, and one last thing, the reason why i got into playing indie games was because of wins from this website, i got hooked up early when i joined with games such as super meat boy, which i loved to play back then. Then guess what happened next, i finished school, got a job and started buying more games which got played before the ones i won here. Should i give a damn about other peoples opinions? No i shouldn't.

Theoretically it should be possible to create a system which checks how many hours a person plays and which games he's played, and have that affect his chance of winning. However, that would probably raise a lot more objections than it would solve.

In the end the only control I'd like to see and I think would work to an extent is to be able (as an option) to limit a giveaway to people who have won under a certain number of games. Possibly also "games per time period" (e.g., less than one a month). There are already such groups, but if this becomes a regular feature for public giveaways, some people might consider not entering for games they don't really want in case the games they do want are limited in this way.

As long as the game is added to their library, I don't care when they play it. Game being in their library shows their willingness to play them at later date.

no. I intend to at least try out every single game I have, but so far I haven't had time to play most of them. Also, who are you to determine whether playing is sufficient "acceptable" reason for getting a game. I have started to consider myself a collector and I intend to try and get every single game on Steam eventually.

I understand what you mean, I only enter giveaways for games that I am interested in playing, but I know some people enter just to win. I wouldn't just jump to conclusions though, I just do not have the time to play games too often being in graduate school so I haven't played many of my wins yet, but I know that I will play all of the games I win eventually though (it is my goal this summer to play a chunk of them).

So far, I've only won games and DLCs which were part of bundles in which I had no interest due to me already having more than half of the games included (and for which most people only paid $1 anyway), or games which were on 85% off sales on Amazon. If I ever won a big giveaway for a real title (even if it was on Steam sale for 75% off previously), I would definitely play it ASAP. Heck, if I actually saw a legit CoD giveaway for a change, and somehow managed to win it, I wouldn't play anything else for a whole month. :P

Well I plan on planning all the games I won. And before you go "That's what they all say", my computer is in terrible standing and can't even run anything. Once I start to earn more money from jobs, I'll be able to build a computer that could play my games that I won. And some games I won and know I have to wait. I REALLY wanted Civ V, Just Cause 2, and Bioshock Infinite, but I know I'll have to be patien befor playing them.

I know what you mean, though. I used to be oe of those people. You can tell from my first few wins (Although I did really want Indie Game the Movie)
