Random invite popped up, and this happens.

The thing is, I looked at his profile and used his id to search for him on steamgifts, but in here, it has the avatar and nickname of one of his steam friends. When I clicked "show steam profile", it sends me to his friends profile. What's going on?

He just changed his location.

Sure scammer, but how did he do it?

Lowis use Enchanted Steam. Open his profile over browser and click on Steam Gifts button. It should be in the list where it shows your friend list, games, videos, inventory etc...
If it's still the same then... he probably changed avatar before adding you and avatar didn't sync in time with SG.

Didn't think on that, I checked his profile on steamrep and copied and pasted his id instead of clicking there xD
He has a diferent profile here, but I'm sure they're two accounts from the same person.

Can I report him to steamrep for trying to scam me that way? Or that's not considered proof as nothing happened?

I really don't know, I've never reported anyone on SteamRep, so I don't know rules there. :/
But if you ask me it's better to stop him from scamming before someone actually falls for that (or maybe someone did already?).

How can I do that? I don't see the option on steamrep.

Edit: found it, but reading their FAQ I think is not something that can be reported.

Lol, I doubt they'll do anything wit this report, aside from the too-good-to-be-real deal there's no real indication of him being a scammer.

His ID was probably a custom ID made to look like the real ID of the person he's impersonating.
An easy way to check the different IDs is going to steamrep. You are:
steamID64: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198041728251
customURL: http://steamcommunity.com/id/lowis90
So, if I change my custom ID to 76561198041728251 I could trick others into finding your profile.

That's what he had done, but he was actually the same person using two accounts. I reported him here and he's already suspended.

How did you know both accounts are owned by the same person?

Well, they were friends, his id was changed to the other account's name, they had used similar nicks in the past. It was pretty suspicious, so I reported his account and support had them checked. Outcome: Suspension.

It seems to me there's not enough to go with a scam attempt. You would have to probably do a steam trade so unless he said he had keys and wanted you to go first, it would seem pretty legal. Only issue is if the games he would trade you for would have been used with a stolen card and you would lose them afterwards.

Yeah, I dont see how he would scam unless he went old greed route (I have key only, you go first) or chargebacked games. Still, why go for all the trouble just for 10 cards? O_o

Well, I have Sleeping Dogs and Hitman on my Ps3, and I don't have any interest in COD.
