Suggestion/Debate: Limit invites to X per account OR X invites per month? This will prevent "the wrong crowd" from registering, reproducing like rabbits, creating fake giveaways, trading tf2 stuff (really?!), and scamming peeps. Perhaps the % used for point earning can fluctuate depending on the # of giveaways. Call me crazy... =Typed on a hacked PSP=

I think some sort of limit would be useful, at least until all the problems are ironed out.

Especially with trading an invite for a TF2 item, its just not what this site is about...

Trading invites for anything is actually against the rules, so you can always report it if you see that sort of thing going on.

I also agree that having an invite limit per user is a great idea (although it might unfortunately be a bit too late as there seems to be a few bad apples that have slipped through already)

If we really have 13,194 Members, why do I always see the same two dozen people speaking? You are not going to tell me 13,170 or them are shy are you?

The way to fix things isn't by limiting the number of invites. But by empowering a number of moderators with power, and banning people by the dozens, without blinking an eye.

I generally try to post on any given forum I'm on, but only when I actually have something to contribute. So far, I haven't really seen any topics I can contribute too. So, I don't post much.

I agree to give mods power, but I'd say at least some basisc checks should be involved before a ban :/

Per account makes the most sense, A lot of exclusive type sites use similar systems where community participation and or buying invites with community points are how people get in.

Why not limit invite giving to people that have hosted a public giveaway and followed up with the game?
It would encourage more giveaways and limit illegitimate growth.

This.

True, it that would work. And ban the forum-inactive + inconsiderate leechers. 2 days = +1K users

A pruning for starters, and maybe limiting to those who have been at very least, active.

btw, hi.

I don't think limiting users on a site like this is a good idea at all. You'll ALWAYS have more people wanting games than making giveaways, so putting a cap on the users would probably only limit the already small amount of people wanting to give games away. I like the idea of pruning users, actually. Prune the inactive people and replace them with active people, at least until there's a decent balance going on.

limiting has one drawback... which you are actually trying to avoid.
logically speaking if there are limits to invites - their worth would increase.... in tf2 items lol.

As Manawarp said, limiting invites to people who have made a giveaway would help greatly, along with preventing the wrong crowd. Limiting per-month invites to people who are actually active in the forum would cut down on leechers. We shouldnt let inactives send invites.

I am afraid that putting a limit on how many new users we have will only hurt the growth. The limit will constantly be capped out by fake accounts so actual new users that are going to contribute won't be able to join.

How bout ranks? Go up a level, more invites and abilities...how? Getting well known, applying, creating giveaways. Like: n00b, Rookie, Member, 1337, and/or moderator. Cuts back on the wrong crowd, and fixes the MOD shortage. Therefore, Cult doesnt have to eat as many people---uh...griefers!

What are your opinions on this idea? , it seems to solve some problems mentioned on other forum posts.

I think instead of limiting everyone's invites they can give just limit some one who has been inviting way too many people disrupting the community with scams. If it keeps going on after the limit just revoke the right for that person to invite or ban them.

Yes. That makes sense, but still, would the ranking system improve the shortage of moderators? It would certainly limit invites to a more managable level.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Well the issue with that is people would just be making dupe accounts so they can use more invites. I doubt they would be caught right away if they do not join any raffles with the dupe accounts.

The value check on steam accounts circumvents this, and you can check the IP address for suspicious invite generating...
