Yes they can. I have a friend who doesn't own a premium minecraft but still joins me on my Tekkit Lite server. He is also very good with computers, knows several computer languages (including java), is studying to get a CS degree, and cracked Tekkit himself.

I prescribe Minecraft to everyone. Little does anyone realize that even before my joining I injected you all with a virus. The only antidote to this virus is a hearty dose of Minecraft. If you don't play, Steve won't have a chance. You won't have a chance. Your blocky world will never come to be and the "real world" will vanish.
