Few days ago this wild page appeared: http://www.othersidetease.com/ It is real. No idea if anyone posted this already, as I don't spend much time on SG lately. Still thought it's worth mentioning.

It's not only the System Shock franchise that gets revived. People behind original System Shock games are back, and working on new title. These are Paul Neurath, founder of Looking Glass Studios(SS and Thief games, both running on their Dark Engine). Nate Wells, senior artist for SS2. And last but not least, concept artist Robb Waters. He is the man who designed the first SHODAN, and now recreates her in new, more modern image(seen below).

System Shock games... Some might not realize that, but SS is actually the reason we have Bioshock, B2, Infinite. System Shock is their spiritual father. So, in my humble opinion, anyone who enjoyed Bioshock games, should look forward to System Shock 3.

Are the first two System Shocks still worth playing?

First one is questionable. Lots of things to like about that game, but the controls are clunky as heck. System Shock 2 is one of the best games ever made, and that's despite the last bit not even being particularly good.

Have you played this version? Is it any different to the original in terms of gameplay?

Vanilla had some parts that might have been considered a little bit doom like, but you also needed the mouse for basic controls, which made the games control very differently to each other.

I've not played the version that is for sale, but I've played the one that was made available for "free" back when System Shock was in legal limbo (no moral qualms about that, I own the CD version), and while it was an improvement, I still found the controls to be very clunky.

The first one is getting remade. When that one is released, yes. It is one of the best horror games, especially if you go into it with zero spoilers, guides, or anything, and rely on the in-game logs to guide you and prepare you for what is waiting in the levels.
The original version in its current state… not really. The controls are beyond awkward and clunky, and the old-school 3D graphics can cause nausea if you are slightly prone to motion sickness.

A little hasty on your trigger finger there? I've put tonnes of hours into it on an old CD, and even more on GOG. None on steam, although I've given away a few copies of it here.

Look at you, hacker. A pathetic creature of meat and bone. Panting and sweating as you run through my corridors. How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?

Yep, I just read a comment and start typing like a crazy

Do you need to play SS1 to understand the story of SS2 or they aren't related.

Most important question: Will there be Brosius?

I mean, I would certainly hope so, at least. No Brosius, no SHODAN.

System Shock 3 is not alone:
After releasing the "System Shock: Enhanced Edition" publisher Night Dive Studios announced a completely reimagined version of the original System Shock game, currently in development. Reference.

They are hardcore survival horrors, so fighting is many times the worst option you can do; even though after a while most if the levels will require you to clear out the opposition to be able to progress uninterrupted.
Still, SS2 was very generous with the respawn stations to make sure people don't get into a too frustrating kill cycle.

You can edit the respawn rate if you've got the latest patch (the version available on steam should be patched), so if it bothers you, you can set the respawn rate to 0

Oh yeah, good news. Maybe some of these youngsters can finally learn who is the real nefarious homicidal crazy AI in video games.
Inb4 kids refer to SHODAN as some GlaDOS knock-off, not even realising who is the weak watered-down copycat. :)

I'm so hyped, but i have concerns that developers wouldn't reach level of awesomeness of SS2. It's really a hard task to create sequel to game like SS2, so i wish good luck to developers, hope to see some gameplay or at least teaser soon.
