Hi everyone,

I recently purchased both Batman Arkham City & Arkham Asylum GOTY editions from a site called GameFly. Purchase went though fine, attempted to enter the codes received into steam but they were 'invalid'. Quickly logged back onto the GameFly site to check my purchase, it turns out i have to redeem them using their download manager (Not happy although I really should have checked tbh)

I immediately contacted their support (Which is terrible btw) and after about a week I got the response that "Since this was a digital purchase, it is non-refundable. We do communicate that this is a final sale when you are in checkout and also include this information in our Terms of Use."

I think this is ridiculous considering most sites have a refund policy if the game code hasn't been used.

This leads me to my question, Can I sell the codes (for instance on ebay) like i have with Steam & Origin?

Thanks in advance everyone :)

Yeah I guess but I try to avoid having loads of clients bogging down my system. My main client is Steam with Origin for BF3 and uPlay for FarCry 3. I'm a bit fussy like that :)

Not hating. Simply stating that his comment was unnecessary.

The last thing we need is the forums to become like Reddit.

Why do you say that? What's wrong with Reddit?

The upvote/downvote feature for one.
It does more harm than good, and it can start dislikes wars between users who will dislike every comment of the person they don't like regardless of what they said.

It's such a terrible feature that some sub-reddits actually are against the idea of using the downvote feature entirely and even suggests to users to downvote votes that only break the rules. Not only that but it leads to circlejerking.

I'd understand if people actually listed the reasons they downvoted you, but they don't. Most of the time it's "I don't agree with this user, so I'll downvote him/her without even addressing why I disagree" even when it comes to subjective subjects such as music and video games.

Now imagine that on these forums. It'd be terrible.

Then there are certain subreddits which are terrible, but I guess I can't really take that into account.

Technically there's no law against it, but they have the right to remove the games if they have found out that it has been re-sold.

Oh really? Well that's not right. It's so unfair when it comes to digital downloads. I wouldn't have any problem with selling on a physical copy of the game. As customers, it seems we have so little rights with digital content.

That's not really true. If you recall well, a while ago they tried a lot to find a way to prevent selling physical game copies. I'm still with a huge problem with Harmonix and RB2/RB3 where I want to redeem my RB2 code and it isn't working and their support doesn't want to help me because it can be a 2nd hand copy. :(

Yeah but it's still digital content. What i'm trying to say is that when the content we purchase is digital, it seems we have so little rights compared to physical items such as disk based content (still to little, but still more than digital content).

GamersGate have a 14 day refund policy and GMG have a 7 day policy. I would hope that if it came to it, Steam would also be as lenient as i'm a big fan.

GamersGate refund policy

  • A game is considered used when a download has been attempted, a serial number have been generated or the game have been gifted.
  • You can ask for a refund with no question asked within 14 days as long as the game has not been used.
  • An order will only be refunded after the game is used or the 14 days period has expired if...
    • You have, within 14 days from purchase, contacted the GamersGate support about it, giving detailed information about the problem and neither the GamerGate support team or the game developers have been successful making the game work.
    • The recommendations from the developers/publishers indicate that a refund may be a good solution.

Green Man Gaming refund policy

Refunds or credits will be issued solely at Green Man Gaming's discretion. Refunds may be offered if all the following conditions are met:

  • The game has not been activated or downloaded
  • The game activation key (including any bonus or beta keys) have not been disclosed to you by email or webpage

+1

GMG would give a refund but only if you claim the key doesn't work or was used already but in that case they'd send it back to the publisher.

GL getting a refund from GMG if it isn't a preorder. Dont ever bother is my advice.

"The game activation key (including any bonus or beta keys) have not been disclosed to you by email or webpage"

Once you buy they get disclosed so you are fucked anyway and they just keep spamming you with ToS bullshit.

Steam will give you one refund

You are confusing GMG with GOG. GOG allows up to 7 days before you can't return the game, assuming you haven't tried to start the download of the game. If you have tried to download the game before 7 days are up, then you can't get a refund on it.

I got the same reply from them so I reminded them that in the EU there's a 7 day grace period where a consumer can get a refund for any purchase made online (with a few exceptions such a perishable goods or time-restricted items such as concert tickets). They refunded my purchase the next day.
