Pretty much, finding F2P games on Steam is easy, click store then the free to play option thats too easy, I've played most of those and, not impressed with them a whole lot, It's like the companies port over to Steam when they about to die and they want a bit more cash to make game live longer.

That List is nice, but there are F2P games outside of Steam, I'm tring to make a larger list.

League of Legends, MOBA game decent balance few OP champs active community, and active company.
Ghost Recon Online, Cover based shooter in true Tom Clancy fashion, teamwork based, PVP only, minor balance issues on special abilities.
Champions Online, superhero MMORPG, great character customization, railroad track skill system for F2P accounts.
Runes of Magic, just your basic fantasy MMORPG, decently active community.
Star Wars the old Republic, Star Wars MMORPG, Decently active community.

I aggree with TrinityGlasfille: even without the trading & crafting system, you'll still be able to drop weapons while playing.
Remember: it was the only way to gain new weapons (except the achievments-unlocked ones) before the Mann Co. Store and the crafting system... And when you had to buy the game, btw.

I really hope that ESO doesn't go monthly sub. I'd buy it if it was a one-time payment like GW2.

Can't believe no one has even said Quake Live yet :(
Its a fantastic game, similar to Quake3 in many ways that people who never played any other quake games would understand. Its an arena style FPS game, its free to play any of about 5 different game types and there are pro and premium accounts with added features but all you really need to do is make friends with people who have paid accounts and ask them to invite you into premium servers and you saved yourself the (rather cheap) subscriptions cost.

Mighty Jill Off has always been one of my favourites (platformer). I've been playing Risk of Rain a lot lately (platformy roguelike), and the original Noitu Love (simple but fun platformer). It may be dorky but I've always liked Stepmania too (a rhythm game, basically DDR). I haven't played it in a while but Mari0 is fun (Mario with portals).

Regarding steam you have this list which is quite extensive... Obviously it lacks a lot of great non-steam F2P games though... =/
EDIT: As for a good place to find F2P games that are not on steam you should check The Free Bundle!
EDIT 2: If you want to have fun with some strange games you should also check the games that were made during The Molyjam. Most are quite small (some rather broken) but it's a fun a place to find a lot of strange games that came from ramblings of Peter Molyneux's twitter account! There are a couple of other archives for independent and F2P games but I don't remember them right now. I remember a page where you could download 500 games that where made over a weekend. Some would refuse to boot but there were some strange and funny games there! If you REALLY enjoy games you'll have fun exploring these strange brainchild... =)
If anyone knows what sites I'm talking about please tell me which they are as I don't remember and I'd kill to play them again... =)
