Hi,

now that I have your attention - I have some money left in my Steam wallet after the sale and wanted to make a GA. problem is: Can I really give away a Steam gift nowadays? Would it work like I add the winner and send it to them or would that be an issue?

Thanks in advance for any help! And have a great day!

Best regards

You can, but you need to region lock it to whatever your local region is, and when you do send it you'll need to pay whatever price it is at that time since you can't store the gift.

Also I was expecting lulz upon entering the thread. Sad that no luulz were had.

Nonsense, there are very limited cases where EU can't gift something globally. So just check regional prices on SteamDB and see if what you want to give is one of those. Often it's only couple countries which you can check out here if it's something you really want to give anyways.

So if country/region is 15% more expensive than EU, don't gift to those.

Prices can fluctuate between regions, so what may be giftable to a different region one day may not be the next.

Not that much, it still requires something to be more expensive elsewhere than in EU with all our taxes. And like I said, that is very rarely happening especially for +15% more. I know this is hard to understand for people living in cheap regions like US. :P

Here's one example that would gift fine to everywhere except Costa Rica or Uruguay: https://steamdb.info/sub/29664/
U.S. Dollar $29.99 26,71€ +6.88%
..
Costa Rican Colon ₡21000 32,16€ +28.69%
Uruguayan Peso $U1850 46,78€ +87.19%

The official info on Steam is obviously outdated, so I would not count on any support from them, if things go wrong, even if it's obviously their fault.

Some people report, that gifting is currently restricted just to within -10%/+10% bracket. Others, like you, say it's only for +15% more. Maybe it is, maybe it's not, maybe it was like this a week ago, but Steam has changed it. Seeing that some of their info is outdated, I would not trust the numbers even if I found them someplace posted officially by Steam.

You could safeguard yourself limiting the GA to Lootboy SG, which allows GAs to be deleted/rerolled. This however could take time, and I assume, that you would want to buy the gift during a sale. So it's also not a comfortable solution.

To make it short, Steam messed it up so much, that I would either make the GA restricted just to my country or I would forget about this.

Sale is over already and since when has anyone had problems with gifting to a cheaper region?

As for the current gifting rules, if you know them, then please post a reliable source, instead of asking me (and as my example shows, you can't really trust Steam to give us up-to-date info, so it's a pretty rhetoric request).

I'm not basing anything at all on what Steam says but on the experiences of people who have tried gifting and then reported potential problems here for example. So do you have any examples of someone in EU not being able to gift something to a much cheaper region? That is the only source we can trust since it reflects the actual rules, not some obsolete or just wrong information on some random page.

Why would they prevent anyone from paying more than their local price. Less is perfectly understandable.

i don't know why the image assumes they have a clean bathroom
India's middle class is poor enough as it is, the lower class often don't even own a bathroom, instead they have communal bathroom for an entire block. Men don't tend to clean it, which is why they take their business outside.

Expired? Did you mean it was made 4 months ago when the herrings expired and got thrown in a can? Doesn't it just keep getting better(worse) over time or does it have some kind of half-life of thousands of years like nuclear waste?

It was 4 month after the expiration date impressed on the can. By the "juicy" aspect... I don't know. It's a mystery for me.
By the "happy" reaction the the guys there, I guess it's good. =D

Remember that the India government made TV ads urging people not to shit on the street. I watched some documentary about that issue and the reasoning for the majority of them is that "it's embarrassing because when you go to the toilet everyone knows what you're about to do there"......How is that worse compared to taking a dump on the sidewalk is beyond me

Well, i havent seen those ads, but it seems to me india government´s take on cleaning the country is counting on changing cultural habits.
rather than admitting there are areas that still lack sanitation and clean water.

I won a game recently and was surprised that the winner could gift me the game. I am in Australia and the gifter was from USA. The currency difference needs to be no larger or smaller than 10% I believe.
