Happy 17th Birthday to me!
what was the first M-Rated game you purchased by yourself?

Not sure myself. It's been a looong time. I think it was RE director's cut that I bought out of a store, other games I've gotten came from a local pawn shop.

You could legally buy M rated games before. Store policy prevents you from buying them, not law, except in a handful of states (and even then, these laws have a shaky history in appeals courts).

To answer your question, I have no idea. I think it was the first SOCOM game.

And now the Australian Government has let me buy R18+ games...only to ban Saint's Row IV and have it censored. Waste of a rating if you're going to ban games anyway.

Turok back inside of 1997 when I was three. That was the gold age of fps, now all that we have is the same linear garbage. I like some M games, but I will always like E games like Banjo Kazooie and Zelda over any mature rated game. I will always prefer the peanut popper (Dk64) over the plasma sword.

What country are you in? I didn't realize it was illegal to buy M games anywhere, though it's not surprising.

There's no law enforcing the ESRB ratings, most stores just do it so they won't have to deal with potential lawsuits.

Happy birthday!
I'm not sure, but I think it was Dante's Inferno.
Awful game, by the way.

Can't remember, but by the time ESRB ratings came out I was already old enough to buy anything I wanted. (Heck, I already had a kid of my own.) But I was playing Leisure Suit Larry way before I should have been allowed to... was 13 when the game came out in 1987. :P

In TN, some retailers enforce an age limit of 18, despite whatever the packaging may say. Same is true for movie theaters, except it's more stringent. There are no signs that say 18+, but they use a sharpie to change that 17 to an 18! Boy, that was irritating when I was that age.

As far as first purchased M game...it was probably on the PS2, that's all I can say.

San Andreas. It ended up getting trashed because I was beating up random people for cash ( which at the time was a close-by woman ).
