...but only to lead to a message explaining why trying to give away a free game makes no sense, and asking them to please not try to add it under a different name.

Just to be clear, this means no giveaway of the game would be made.

I mean, we still get people submitting SMNC as Monday Night Combat, with the "I didn't see super monday night combat in the list but this is it" excuse. Won't call anyone out specifically, just, it still happens.

I think a lot of spam would be avoided if Guns of Icarus Online were in the list next to Guns of Icarus.

As an unrelated aside, why not add a note to the confirmation page explaining that this is expecting YOU to buy someone ELSE a copy of the game in question, not vice-versa? Again, thwarting another excuse.

Yes, we need to giveaway F2P games on SteamGifts.
Not like we can get them on Steam...for free.

I did, if it gets added to the list there probably won't be a way to stop them from creating the game. Remember when Team Fortress 2 was still on the list? People still submitted that as a giveaway.

...Did you really? Because the idea was adding them to the list just to redirect them to a page explaining why it isn't a valid giveaway.

Why would it then post it as a giveaway?

Except, giftable TF2 gives you premium account and a special hat that can't be got by any other means so I completely fail to see the problem here :|

Do not want. Except for they cost 0 points to enter and don't even give a single cent of contributor value.

I think most of them know whats going on, they just wanna boost the contributor value

If that's the case, then why hand them a convenient excuse to do so under the guise of an "accident"?

Possibly, but only if the winner accepts and doesn't report him.
If it works that way.

Sounds like a good idea, actually.

Also, it's amazing how many people can't be bothered to read the OP, but still feel the need to comment o.O

Yeah, it didn't take me long to decide to add the giant text because of that.

or we could, you know, ignore them entirely and just report the giveaway like other sensible users do

Which causes more workload for the support staff.

Whereas making a page with a handful of sentences on it and adding Steam's library of F2P games would take, what, an hour? I don't pretend to know how the back-end of the site works but it's not exactly a revolutionary change to the site's inner workings I'm suggesting here.

Much pople giveaway in forums a lot of beta keys, and always the ninjas got it. I like this idea and i can help:
Beta giveaway. Marked as [Beta] in blue color for example to see it easy, (same than [group] in green):
Points necessary to enter the giveaway: 1
Contributor value added to the user that make the giveaway: 0
Points added to the rest of user for add a new giveaway in steamgifts: 0
Easy ;)

Also can make a filter to see or not the beta giveaways.

Beta giveaways aren't allowed unless they're whitelisted, so it makes no sense to make giveaway pages for them.

If people are genuinely too dumb to read the rules, or read the text actually on the screen, they kind of deserve the suspension they (might) get. If you're making giveaways on Steamgifts, assuming you made the purchases yourself, you're old enough for either a credit card or a Paypal account. You shouldn't need to be protected from yourself.

True, some users are not native English speakers, and there's no translation of the FAQ in their language. But if they can't read the FAQ, they probably can't read a warning on the giveaway page either.

It's just one less excuse someone can make. It would allow the staff to be harsher on someone who makes an erroneous giveaway, if they claim to be ignorant of the bold text at the top of their confirmation page, or something. The problem as I see it is that there are easy excuses out of either honest or dishonest mistakes. Some simple measures would prevent (or at least reduce - you can't fix stupid entirely) honest mistakes and make it easier to justify punishing the dishonest ones.

It could be something as simple as a single sentence, followed by a checkbox claiming something along the lines of agreeing to it. Sure, there will still be people that don't actually read it before checking and submitting the giveaway - but it'd be a lot easier to justify the ban later.

This, or the possibility to make a giveaway for a game called "Miscellaneous" (I always have to look whether i spelled this correctly) which adds 0$ and costs 1p to enter for every game that's not in the list. The creator could enter the name in the description or in an additional field

Eh, people who would knew about such option would rarely bother, people who are now a problem wouldn't bother or know anyway...

It's a good idea. I think they should add BETAs too, it would really help for those idiots not reading the rules.

I wholeheartedly support the idea. I've talked about it in chat before, others seem to also be for it. Too bad many people here can't bother reading your suggestion and skip straight to posting crappy one-liners.
