Do you read descriptions in giveaways?
I read every single description of every giveaway I enter. It's just common courtesy.

Yes, I do. Also, thank you for giving away Daedalic Entertainment games. I already have these games and also almost all of their games, but I still wanted to thank you. ;P

I bought them with a more expensive price in the past, but nevermind. xD

I do, but most of the people who will answer you on forums do so as well so your poll will be biased. Why? Because most people who bother visiting forums are more or less invested in community, looking for interactions with other members and so on. These people are willing to read countless forum gibberish, so a GA description is no problem. But if you look at it realistically - how many people do visit forums? Maybe 2-3k if we are optimistic. At most a few hundreds of actual regulars. And then you have tens of thousands of people who don't really care and just want a chance for free stuff. They will mostly not read GA descriptions at all and thery are in much bigger numbers ;)
Not to mention the bots ;)

they do, but 1st not every forum goer will read descriptions, I just said that if someone will read description it will rather be forum goer than someone who uses GA part of the site only. And if there are many many times more people who just enter than people who are active community members and still some of active community members won't read as well it's to be expected that your public GA will not see a lot of reading/comments - because most of entrants will only see it as another freebie chance ;)
Let's make a simple mathemathicas example (purely hypothethical, not worth to get actual numbers, just example to show the point): 95% of "active" users are either botters/scripters or "zombies" who don't interact just mindlessly try to get free stuff. Almost none of them read GA descriptions. 5% are active community members. Out of these active community members 66% do read GA descriptions and 33% are active just on forums looking for more free stuff with better chances, but then not even willing to spend 5 extra seconds to read/comment. And with such circumstnces if you make a public low lvl GA and 230 people enter - 218.5 of them will be users of first category so none of them will read a thing. 3.8 users will be active members but who don't bother reading GAs. And 7.6 will be active users reading descriptions and seeing hidden GA. So almost perfect. And considering difference between forum and public GAs it quite fits the actual numbers ;)

Indeed, neither in my )
Still I think active ones are around 2k using somewhat wide definition of active (including ppl like Tragikos, who more or less posts twice a year ) )
All forum browser are north of 16k (and ratio of creators/users lines up pretty good with global stats)

Read-the-description-bump!
I almost always read the descriptions, unless they are in a foreign languages or contain to many links to social media etc.

I always read them provided I understand the language for GA details, hidden GA and gifs =^.^=

Very important to read them. Some people use bots and stuff I think, which I really am opposed to... I've found amazing groups, secret links, and other tidbits in giveaways. It's great to read what all they have to say anyway... some interesting reads, and a few I wish I hadn't read ... haha!
Even worse for me... people that I have to do rerolls for because they own dlc, and don't check. I make level 5+ or 6+ and still get this. It's pretty crazy! You'd think they'd know by that point, but hey... not everyone takes time out to do those sorts of things, plus there's the hide button beside the game if you wanted to remove it from your shown lists....
If somebody is giving something away for free, the least I could do is read what they have to say, if anything. At least scan over it briefly if it's short, and kind of the average sort of generic good luck, or leave a thank you if you win, but no comment necessary, etc.
That's my take. Some people who are AMAZING gifters in the community will blacklist people that do not comply with whatever they ask in the description. Won't bring up any names, but there's one in particular that kind of got me more into the spirit of reading them. Thanks to him, if he reads this! :D

Well, yeah, I think it is kind of a "problem" of sorts when the numbers are that far apart, even if that is a common thing, which it seems to be. There's no real "acid test", so to speak, to see if anybody really reads them or not either, aside from burying a question in them, or hiding a link or really easy puzzle for certain people who are interested and paying attention to enter another giveaway, sort of like you were getting at in your above topic. They could always choose not to do something on purpose, I suppose, like you hint at for a new poll.
The only real positive thing I could think of: If one did decide they wanted only topic readers, they could start a small group dedicated to this and stick invites in giveaway descriptions, and then make sure to add a rule to include adding comments relating to giveaway descriptions to any giveaways that go on in the group, or if I took a more stern approach, I'd probably warn people not to enter unless they wanted to do something generic, like type in their user name, favorite color, etc. in comments or something similar, if I were looking for a bunch of people to remove from future giveaways. That is definitely not very feasible at level 0 or 1, since there would be a lot of entries there though. Without a very short time, too many comments to go through, and too big of a list to have to go through, especially if one has other things going on - it would make everything way too confusing.
I guess a lot of people just run through a daily routine, or a small bit have bots do it for them, then that ends up being the result. For some, it is an honest mistake. I have had times where I was rushed, or maybe a bit fatigued from being at the computer for a while, so in saying I read "all" topics, is more like 96 percent if I were being completely honest. If a large amount of people wanted to start blacklisting repeat offenders though, that would start to weed things out for some of us, but solving a "negative" with another negative isn't really the best alternative, in my mind - nor is it a real solution that helps everyone who is not blacklisting for whatever reasons, leaving many giveaways still open to the original "problem" group, if one wanted to consider it that. It's a tough one to answer, but it's rewarding to those that do read things, since they end up getting better odds than usual, so there is a silver lining to it in many cases!
Anyway, I am babbling on here a bit, which I tend to do at times, but those are my overall thoughts about things.
In the long run, still rewarding for those that do try to read descriptions.

Never happened to me that i entered a dlc i had afaik but to their defense. But i dont enter dlc in most cases until its for a Game where i really really want it so i know most times even without looking that i dont own them.
It can be sometime a little confusing if the site shows you dlc you own to enter
not all dlc are easy to see that you own them afaik

Yes, I read the descriptions. I try to answer any questions that are posed also, unless they don't really apply to me.
However, I've noticed that I may sometimes glaze over the text if I am tired or bored, and not actually register what it says.

Yep, always read them, it seems the obvious thing to do. Spending a couple seconds on reading the thoughts of someone who is generous and giving you the chance at a game, really isn't much of a sacrifice. And also that way you won't miss out on whatever potential information the author could be sharing and will be less likely to run into nasty surprises, and of course there's the odd hidden goodie here and there =)

yes and if the giveaway has images, i will open it too :3

thanks, but i don't mean on that. grammar can be problem in some cases, but everyone can understand. For me is problem when i think about something on my language and when i translate that on english. in translation i lose whole point.
i know some other people which have same/similar problem

not only practice, the other day i ran into someone asking for jokes, i do know some but they are words based so that doesn't work even if I translate them :(

I always read them, I find descriptions either just make someone seem like a nice person behind the giveaway, or there's information there that's important.
I used to enter every game I saw even if I didn't want it but I stopped after I won a game that I will never play and I felt bad because someone else could've won it and really enjoyed it. I didn't read descriptions back then and I really missed out, so I don't do that anymore.

It would be interesingto known how many people enter through those autojoin scripts or do it the robot way manually (just enter everything until they run out of points), because I always thought they were a tiny minority but lately my impression is changing quite fast :(

Yeah, I read them most of the times since I don't enter that many GAs anyway. Like people have said before me, they could contain important information. Though I sometimes overlook them by mistake (since many GAs don't include a description).

yep. you never know what kind of stuff the GA creator might add in there like extra links or important info, plus... you're entering a GA for free, at least you could take 3-4 secs to read the descriptions, most times they are fairly short as well
