Thank you very much, this is somewhat along the lines of what I was thinking myself as well but I wasn't confident enough since I haven't been running programs like the ones mentioned before. We're both in Greece at the moment so we'll probably use local stores/websites that many times have quite a vast difference in pricing so just the general idea is more than appreciated :P

Not strong on image editing. but if it's anything like heavy matlab graphs than you need a strong computer.
with your budgeted budget(have no idea how much stuff costs where you are), i'd advise to focus on 2 things:
RAM: get at least 8Gb of ram. and get the fastest you can. better in two 4 Gb slots, but make sure the motherboard can parallel (all new ones should)
GPU: a medium-end one. the specs and prices keep changing. but check for several comaring sites (like this one: http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=88&pgno=8)
and make sure you get a PSU with at least 500 (no need for more than that if you don't crossfire or something similar).
Good luck and tahnks for the GA. great game

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor
Cooler: Stock
Motherboard: MSI 970 GAMING ATX AM3+ Motherboard
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB FTW ACX Video Card
Power supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
RAM G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Total: €590.26
Since you're going to be using image editing and animation tools, I'd recommend an AMD processor, the individual cores aren't as powerful as those of Intel, but those sorts of programs benefit more from multiple weaker cores than a few strong ones. If you had a higher budget, an Intel i7 would have been nice due to the hyper-threading abilities. The motherboard I linked has 4 RAM slots, so you can add more RAM at a later stage. The stock cooler should be enough to keep it cool, but if you don't trust them, you can always go with an AMD FX-8320, which is about 20€ cheaper, and use the spare cash to get a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. You can also opt for a smaller PSU to save some money, depending on how hungry the hard drives are.

CPU: save some buck and buy this (you'll need to update it in 1/2 years i think) or get and I5 wich will last longuer
Cooler: if you have some bucks to spare get a 40€ air cooler :)
Motherboard: definetly get z97-k or a gaming motherboard (any motherboard with overclock functionality will work fine)
Gpu: 960 is the best performance per €
Ram: 1x8gb 1600mhz (cl10 or lower) is fine for now, you'll upgrade for 16gb after so don't bother getting 2x4gb
Power supply: get 500W or more, always always google for specific psu before you purshase it! There are crappy corsais PSU's too as any other brand, model is very important
Base components The 960 should be something like 200€ so you'll have 100€ to spare in hard drive and others

So a friend of mine is trying to build a pc that run programs like photoshop, premiere and after effect and generally image editing and animation programs which is a bit out of my expertise. We have a strict budget of 600€ which we cannot exceed and we only need the tower and it's components, none of the extra stuff like monitors, keyboards and such. Oh and we're also reusing the old HDD and SSD so no need for these either. So I'm counting on all the people with such expertise here and your suggestions :P
It'd also be super helpful if it followed a template like
CPU:
Cooler:
Motherboard:
GPU:
Power supply:
RAM:
Thanks to everyone in advance! And here's the obligatory GA :P
