So I recently acquired a key for the game SPRAWL, The game looks pretty cool but I noticed that one of the tags for the game is 'Controller' so does this mean I'll HAVE to have a controller in order to play it or can I just use the good old mouse & keyboard (I'm really really not a controller type of guy if it's not a sport game)
Thanks in advance :D

KBM is supported, based off the fact you can invert its controls see here

If a game only support controllers or a controller is strongly recommended (aka the devs themselves are aware that the m&k support is not good) the game will have a big warning like the ones you see on games that only work in VR. If the warning is not there you can assume it will work with mouse and keyboard since that's the default input as far as Steam is concerned.

Edit: found an example: Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons

Oh yea that does make sense, thank you so much for taking the time to answer<3

They should really change Brothers to say that a controller is strongly recommended considering it can be played with a keyboard.

Have you played it with a keyboard? I almost bought it last sale and I didn't even notice the warning

I played it with a controller, but if you search the discussions for keyboard, you will see that a lot of people have played it that way. It is probably easier with a controller because you have to control 2 characters at the same time. You can use each thumb to move one character and a single shoulder button on each hand to interact and it works good that way. I would imagine it is a little more cumbersome on a keyboard.

It is one of my favorite games of all time :)

Wait, you can? I played it many years ago and remember it only working with controllers.
Maybe it was patched in later and they forgot to update the store page. Not that it's very relevant anymore considering that a remake is coming soon.

I played it in 2014 with a controller, but I remember reading back then about using a keyboard. I think there was an issue in one spot of the game where there is a crank you need to rotate to lift something and it goes really slow for some reason when using a keyboard. I think that was the only keyboard issue in the game and I'm pretty sure you could get through it, it just took a little more time in that one part.

I would definitely recommend a controller though.

To be fair back then if a game so much as hinted that it was better with a controller I'd plug one in and not even check if it supported a keyboard, so maybe I'm just misremembering. That was around the time when I even played some first person games with a controller.

I think I played it with keyboard, at least I mentioned in my review of 2016 that it controls with wasd and arrows :)

I recently played Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and while the game itself is recommending to use a controller, the store page doesn't have that remark. Just to point out that it's not always reliable.

I think if a game requires a controller there's a message on the store page, similar to games that require a VR headset. But in my experience it's exceptionally rare that a game is controller-only.

I don't know for sure but an FPS game that cannot be played via keyboard+mouse would be oxymoron I guess. :)

I played with M&K. Didn't really have any issues that can I recall.

I will never understand what's the point of playing 1st person shooters with a controller. Like your primary goal is to enjoy the gunplay and movement, but how can you do it with a controller that severely limits your options of controlling and makes it impossible to aim, because of the aim support (or even full autoaim in some games for that matter).

To answer your question, of course it's possible to play with keyboard and mouse. Controller in that kind of games is for lazy gamers

I just bind every shooter I play to my Logitech G923 racing wheel and play that way. I hate myself sometimes.

Light was shining through my window day and night while I was playing my favorite games. I wanted rain and I didn't know what to do, so the best thing I thought would help was to make god cry.

Sure, its an fps.

For clairity:

Official storepage information (right side of the page) is 99% of the time reliable (only rarely some dev messes up or fail to update that info). So where it says 'full controller support' it means just that- that it SUPPORTS.

Games tags on the other hand also include user voted tags, and that means anyone can put anything- so reliability is harder. Ive seen games with completely wrong tags just for the lulz (like say a casual or easy tag in a souls game). Also the tags dont mean anything concise- you can literally click on the +sign and add anything. Someone could put that as meaning 'supports controllers' in a game, another as best or must... every person their reasons, every title their case.

Usually you dont have to bother with controllers- in the rare instances only controllers work warnings are written in the story page- you can also do a quick check in the games discussion, any game that doesnt support mouse+keyboard get A LOT OF COMPLAINTS about that (because its pc, not console, many dont have or hate controllers). Heck games that have no mb+kb support usually have tons of negative reviews mentioning it

That said theres a bunch of games that play waaaaay better with a controller then mouse+kb; Third person, racing games, some sports genres etc- just go to the discussions and search for mouse or keyboard to be sure.

Thank you so much for all of that info.
I agree that sports games and (most) racing games are better with controller but I just physically can't play a shooter with a controller, I'm just uncapable of doing such things.

I playd it recently and I couldn't imagine playing this game without K&M.

Either way, there are two tags for controllers in steam, support and require. As long as "require" isn't there you should be able to play with K&M.
