Sonic 3 & Knuckles

To be honest I want a game completely about politics. Preferably an open-sandbox "grand strategy" like the Paradox games. Victoria II was great with it's "turn of the century" political focus but I would love something a bit more modern and in-depth.
Supreme Ruler: Cold War was fairly close but the politics and economics was lacking a bit. I could turn up consumer, business and industrial tax to 90% and focus on science and sell off vaccines for crazy prices to other countries and nobody voted my party out. I was also playing as Australia which means a quick alliance with the US made it impossible for anyone to attack you.

I suppose the military, economic and infrastructure are all controlled by an "AI governor" and the only real inputs are you changing policies and reforms. I would love to make up some kind of crazy government, like a "socialist-monarchy" where the royal family exists only to be a vanguard of human rights.

Sadly that Political Machine 2012 game is only about American partisan politics which in my opinion is the most boring politics in the world.

in most important terms, that being moving the genre or industry in the right direction, I'd have to go with the original old Shogun: Total War

Soul Nomad and the World Eaters (PS2) from Nippon Ichi Software. The only games I've beaten more are the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games, and they had a 15 year head start.
