I had a pretty effective system, but it's starting to fall.
What are you guys' categories, if any?

  • Favorites (everything I'm playing currently)
  • Betas
  • Demos
  • Demanding (not playable on my laptop)
  • Finished (played through)
  • Completed (played through and completed all achievements)
  • Unwanted (never going to play)

Hardly anything groundbreaking. =D
Probably should try sorting by contents or intent to play at some point.

Done - games I've completed (including achievements)

In Progress - games I'm in the middle of playing, or started and not finished.

To play soon - games that I've marked to be the first in line, when the time comes =)

Quests - because I own so many :D

Scroller - for 2D games

Timekiller - online and endless games =)

Not Gonna Play - for games that were in shared keys from HB =)

That's about it =)

For the most part it's just a list of meta-genres. Strategy, Puzzles, etc. with a few sub-genres thrown in (TPS and FPS, aRPGs and Normal RPGs). I have an "Others / Flash" category that holds most of the oddball games/items that don't fit anywhere else. I also made two categories for the games I wanted to finish this past summer (failed miserably) one was for games left to play and one was for games finished.

Thinking about making a category for games I will never finish (for whatever reason) and games I've beat 100% and know I won't play again (little replay value, etc.), that would at least make my library list not so lengthy as I could always keep that one minimized

Favourites - Games I am playing
Play -Installed games from my backlog or ones I will only play occasionally
Download -I have a small monthly bandwidth cap so when the end of the moth comes around I download what I can with what bandwidth is left
Needs Fixing -Games that don't run or have issues on my laptop
Have Elsewhere - For games that I use the DRM free/GOG/ Android versions of so don't need the steam versions
Obselete - Games I won't play because they have been replaced by a sequel which has the gameplay of the original for example not much point playing Space Rangers over SR2.
Games - Everything else

Favorites only.
Which is a list of currently installed games that need to be completed before I remove them, and currently not installed games that I plan to finish (or at least try).
No need for any 'done' or 'completed' categories as playtime and achievements are a good indicator for where my memory fails me.

I have Meh and Games.
Meh is for stuff I don't care about (or episodic games) and only got because of bundles/free and then Games is everything else.

For the longest time I had only two categories, PLAYABLE and UNPLAYABLE. The latter was closed/minimized/whatever you want to call it. Then in February, I got a computer that could actually handle most modern games.

Now I'm at a point where I have 100+ games (yay for bundles!) so I've got a system of sorts worked out. I still have the PLAYABLE and UNPLAYABLE categories, but as I play games from there, I try to move them into another category. As I finish that, the PLAYABLE category will simply be assigned another category, and the few games that I can't run will be left in the UNPLAYABLE category.

Other categories:

BEATEN -- Games that I'm satisfied that I beat. This isn't necessarily 100%, but I tend to devote almost all of my gaming time to one game at a time until I feel I'm "done" with it, so basically when I move onto another game, it gets moved here. Category is closed unless I'm looking to play a specific game in it.

NOW PLAYING -- The most recent 5 or so games I've played. While I do MOSTLY play one game at a time, I still play other games and this category lets me quickly find the things I've recently been interested in. Basically, it's a rotating list of what I'll probably want to play at any given time. This was also merged with the remnants of a short-lived FAVORITES category. Terraria and Team Fortress 2 stay here despite me playing very little TF2 and absolutely no Terraria in the past few months.

TRADING CARDS -- When trading cards first came out, and for a while afterwards, I put all my games with cards in this category so I knew which games to idle while I slept. Like the PLAYABLE and UNPLAYABLE categories, they will be re-assigned when (if?) I open them again. Now that trading cards are being added more slowly (at least from the perspective of games I own), I doubt this category will get much more use.

ZERO INTEREST -- Games I tried and didn't like or games that came in bundles which I have no desire to play. If my Steam partition (200gb) ever fills, these games will be the first to be uninstalled.
