You can either back up your important files to a USB/SSD and format your pc OR just delete manually everything you have, programs, games etc and leave just the windows...but in that case you need to clean your registry.....

Yeah. Don't just simply format your hard drive. Use a disk nuker to give it a 1-pass full overwrite at least.

I disagree that the only safe way is to burn the hard drive though. Maybe if you're a government agency. On high density disks a 1-pass pseudorandom write is more than adequate to make the data unrecoverable, or a 4-7 pass if you're really paranoid. If someone could recover your data 1:1 after you overwrote it with high entropy data, disk manufacturers would surely take advantage to double the density of their disks.

The paranoid types went for multiple passes because of white papers on data recovery, involving such techniques as using a scanning electron microscopes to read any data that happened to be off-center from the track written to the disk. I can't recall any instance of this technique ever being used by even by big agencies, and surely it's extremely impractical. It's also impossible to do now on newer disks that are emerging with Shingled Magnetic Recording, meaning the tracks on the disk overlap and there's no longer a small amount of space between them that the head could wobble off to.

Ccleaner has this awesome function called "disk wipe", it will erase, and make the content unrecoverable

"Hard drive & OS Not Included".
Swap older HDD over to new CPU as a slave drive, copy files - pictures, etc. to new drive.
Games and stuff won't work due to registry stuff being missing, and using the new drive as a primary would cause the computer go WTF IS THIS? since it won't have the drivers for the new motherboard and stuff on there.

When done, format the older drive to free up space, then can be used later as a secondary for games and stuff. You'll fill 500GB up in a matter of days otherwise.
