yes, that's my understanding of it too. however if you lack almost all or all the dlc's it maybe wiser to purchase the ultimate upgrade once it is available. even no discount at all on the upgrade will likely still be a better deal then purchasing every single dlc individually.
but... since the value and discount ranges aren't known yet no one truly knows.. it's just educated guesswork really. xD

it's kinda my "go to" for a quick fps fix. i never really get into it for long periods at all, but it's one of the only two linux natively installed games that i can launch and play without needing to boot into windows.
just load it up for a heist or two, and then forget about it another couple of weeks until i need another fix. xD
edit: just in case anyone asks, The Long Dark is the other linux natively installed game for me. ^^

I loved doing the bank heists. I had a few friends I used to play with and we had a bunch of heists down to a science. It was always a great time. I think a good crew is important. But I'm probably not giving randoms enough credit

everyone always tells me it's no fun without people, but i play it as a SP game anyways and still enjoy the hell out of it.
yes AI helpers suck and can't be relied on, but that's apart of the challenge for me. trying to control them as well as play it at the same time. but there is some maps that really require real people help, so those i don't really play that often or at least not on harder difficulties.
got to infamous lvl 3 though playing completely solo, so i must be doing something right still.. ^^

Fair enough! It's definitely fun solo but to me was more fun with a solid group. At least for loud mission. Stealth ones aren't too hard to solo once you learn how to do them. But it's also a ton of fun to strategize with pals

PD2 is a good game, but being unable to finish any heist when playing without a premade group besides those 4-5 same missions made me quit the game. Probably won't buy this "upgrade", seems pointless as well since most of the playerbase will migrate to PD3.

i think they're referring to stealth orientated heists being ruined by people that don't know what they are doing if it's not a premade preknowledgeable group. (besides those 4-5 same missions = the non stealth base game maps)

While I can see that as being frustrating, you can easily play solo/premade or put a minimum level on the matches so you get people that know what they're doing. On top of that, premades still have a chance to fail.
Regardless, there's so much other free loud heists that you can join without owning the DLCs. So I feel like if you own the game and enjoy it, give it another shot now that some time has passed. You might get back into it.

yeah, i'm totally against how they do dlc's too.. i'm not so opposed that they have so much, its more that their ratio of free2pay content is way out of whack. if they're gonna do 30paid content for their game, they should do 30free content for their game of the same magnitude. instead they consider tossing a mask on humble and a mauler on alienware as their "free" content to try and make up for their imbalance and it's crap and greed.

They didn't. The only package available always was GOTY, and it contained all materials released 2013 and 2014.
2017 is 3 years after 2014 aswell, so not quite sure what's all that about.

Actually released (in 2014 mind you, not sure where the 2016 comes from) = 24. Never released = 40. Beats me why they didn't release a 2015 GOTY though, got me there.

the first several purchases of the BTA tier of the last payday 2 bundle that had GOTY accidentally gave the version you claim was never released to the first thousand+ customers and then changed it to what they claimed to be the 2016 edition that didn't contain nearly as much content.

That's because they stuffed the wrong package in the Humble Bundle, making you a very happy accidental owner of way more DLC than you should have.
It was never officially released though, for whatever reasons.

I might be wrong, but in my point of view, those who stated "scam" are just ignorant people, don't they realize or why are they denying the fact that getting safes and selling them on the market would have gotten them the DLCs that they wanted for free? I've only had PD2 for half a year and I am loving it, I've got the few DLCs I wanted. End of story, and for people who stated that they should have waited until now to get the DLCs, you wouldn't have been able to enjoy the DLCs for the time period you played until now.

So bit of a random question for any active players - I got Payday 2 from the flash Humble Bundle some months ago, and at some point want to give it a try.
So my question is, other than the DLCs included in the Humble Bundle (John Wick and Bank Heist, if I remember correctly), what other ones would be a good deal to get right now, if I want to try stuff out at a later point. As far as I got it, all future content will be free, so this seems like a good time to buy 1 or 2 outstanding DLCs, if there are such.

imo if you play with a AK/Car rifle, then that pack's kinda a must have. otherwise beyond the GOTY edition anyways, the rest are more of "wants" then actual "needs". i personally enjoyed the scarface heist, bike heist, & classics from the wolf pack too though.

No just got the 1$ tier back then, so I have Payday 2 + John Wick Weapon Pack + Bomb Heists, and a few freebies that Overkill gave out (weapons mostly). Some of the DLCs look nice, but not sure if they are worth it - for example the Ninja or Chivalry weapon packs, or the Goat Simulator and Hotline Miami DLCs

I would recommend gage weapon pack bundle, which includes 7 DLCs for a cheap price, Butcher's BBQ pack, Gage Spec Ops Pack and Butcher's AK/CAR Mod Pack.

the weapon & mod packs without heists are probably the most important (sniper & shotgun packs are depending on your style of gameplay), then it would be mostly just the heists that interest you otherwise. tbh i wasn't a big fan of those heists or weapons from those listed packs personally though.

i think many of overkills decisions are scummy and crappy, but none of them are an actual scam.

First thing first, it's not an upgrade, the coming ultimate edition is a bundle with all the DLCs + the base game excluding the 2 upcoming Overkill employee packs and the special DLCs like Completely Overkill Pack etc.
You will keep your DLCs, but if you want any of the current DLCs, your only choice will be to buy the ultimate edition in the future which will deduct whatever you own at that time, but I doubt it'll be cheaper than the current pricing except for the base game.
Future DLCs will be available free to all who has base PD2 game, but do remember, it excludes the 2 upcoming Overkill employee packs.
