- I just copied that part from the Awesomenauts newsletter, it doesn't say "character" or "skin" there.
- I have no idea of the difference between "character" and "skin" in Awesomenauts, I haven't played it for a long time.

A character is new person to play as with a whole different set of moves.
A skin is just a new look for a character. It's much less significant than a getting a character for free would be.
The way they worded it is very deceiving and makes it sound like you're getting a whole character to play (for example "receive Officer Lonestar for free!" really makes it sound like you get the character to play as permanently, not just a skin for that character.

Ah, thanks a lot for the clarification. Since there are a few comments from "veteran" players complaining about how they are giving for free items that they had to buy, I thought it was more like a proper, DLC thing. I'm linking to your comment.

Her middle mouse shot is tricky because of the delay, but when you can it line up to hit multiple enemies and a turret it's pretty nice.
