Yesterday, i was thinking about playing Skyrim again. I had bought it many months (maybe 2 years ago -not 100% sure but it was in 2013) from a trader. It WAS a cdkey, i paid him via paypal. I'm pretty sure he was a trustworthy trader cause im a really experienced trader and i wouldnt trade a cdkey if his rep wasnt really good since i know the risk of being scammed and i guess i know almost every way i could get scammed. Anyway, im going to download my game and i cant find it in my library. I had played about 45 hours in the past. Here i have to mention a weird thing; from the first day i bought/activated it and played it the game didnt show up in my games list, where you see how many hours of each game you have played. Another weird thing is; i bought 2 keys from the same trader, the other key was activated from a friend and he still owns skyrim. There's no sign in my account that i ever had skyrim, the only one is this . It's on my account details. Nothing else. Probably, it was a cdkey bought with a stolen card but here come some other questions like: if it was like this, wasnt i supposed to be informed that my game was revoked? i got no mail/notification or anything related, it just gone poof! and disappeared. And after so many months? wtf i had played it a few times already.. I feel like they broke into my house and stole my skyrim copy.

tl;dr -> skyrim missing from my library; bought it as a cdkey about 2 years ago; nobody informed me or anything; wtf valve?

edit#1: when i go here: http://steamcommunity.com/id/etze/stats/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim/?tab=achievements i get this

edit#2: Here's some more info. i HAVE a skyrim badge dated December 2013 + 45 hours on record. Here you go

Isn't there supposed to be a red message when a game is removed from your library ? A big warning that tells you a game was purchased with fraudulent payment...things like that ?

No, you get a warning from Steam when a game key is revoked. I've seen it first hand when they revoked all the Warlock II keys from the GamersGate price error.

true but they were not bought with fake cc, if OP got a key from fake credit card purchase i'm not sure if happens the same way because bundles would not give you any warning if gets revoked (not sure if still happens)

Valve really should make it obvious why a game is removed from your library. You know, send an email to the account's email address, put some kind of placeholder in your library which explaining what's going on. Don't just leave people wondering what happened.

Hell, if you've got more than a page full of games in your library, you might not even notice if one disappears.

Valve is acting the same way since steam was born with the Counter-Strike update 1.5 to 1.6. I can still remember the mess with missing and removed preorders for Half Life 2 in the past. Well people are willing to buy digital copy's of games, even if they can get a physical copy for the same or even lower price. So why should they change anything there, if everyone continue to pay them even if they dont change anything?

Definitely seems like an error on Steam's part. I bought Fallout New Vegas off Newegg and activated it with the CD key, it's still in my library and I activated it like 2 years ago. You need to have the Steam client running first. Then go to: steam://open/console in your browser. This will open the Console tab in the Steam Client. At the bottom of the Console tab, there's a command line for you to type in commands.

If the browser isn't loading the tab for you. You can also go to Start > Run, then type in the same command.

Looks like your Skyrim license did get revoked then as nothing is listed.

Normally, if you have any type of license for a game, that command will list:

  1. the specific subid (ROW, RU version, etc.);
  2. the country the game was originally purchased in;
  3. the method (Guest Pass, CD-Key, etc.) of activation;
  4. the exact timestamp of when the game was activated; and
  5. the apps and depots (DLCs, soundtracks, etc.) the license lets you access/download

Hopefully, you'll be able to get this sorted out with Valve Support. Best of luck.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What surprises me here is that licenses do have a state and flags, so if I had any control over it I would revoke licenses by changing their state to inactive and setting a flag to show why it was revoked... but I have no idea if that's how steam works...

You can probably google a more comprehensive list, but the most useful ones are:

  1. app_start_validation <appid>
    • verifies the game cache integrity for a game (without invoking the normal dialog box)
  2. app_status <appid>
    • installation information (size, depots installed, location, etc.) for a game
  3. download_depot <appid> <depotid>
    • downloads a specific depot for which you have a license (ex. a soundtrack without downloading the full game)
  4. licenses_for_app <appid>
    • displays license information for a specific game
  5. licenses_print
    • displays all licenses associated with your Steam account
  6. user_friends
    • displays all your friends with their Steam AccountID, online status, and nickname
  7. user_info
    • displays your account information (e-mail, country associated with your IP, SteamID, etc.)

Bet you that they are gonna respond 3 weeks later and not even understand your issue. Valve and Steam are notorious for their very bad, copy-paste, we-don't-care, we-don't-read-your-tickets "support". I have sent 3 or 4 tickets myself and each time I do, I always end up boiling over it. Sure they have sales that are great but that's it. I guess they get that through to their heads. I'm actually sick of them to be honest but I'm sort of in too deep at the moment. For a "retailer" they don't know the first thing about support or customer satisfaction. I guess that's what you would call "getting what you paid for".

Oh well. I am migrating to another country in a few months and I am already expecting half of my library to disappear or be unplayable because Valve and their asshole people keep thinking up of asshole policies to get more money from us. Aside from that, I hope everything works out for you. Take care.

I've had my copy of Saints Row IV revoked once. It was a CD-key I traded, and one day when I went to the game in my library I got a purchase button instead of a play button. Weird thing is that I traded a copy of skyrim too with the same guy, and that one never got revoked. Same thing happened to Dead Island when I bought an extremely cheap key for my brother's account. A few months later it was removed without any notification. I assumed the key was stolen and therefore revoked by Valve.

Also happened to my Natural Selection 2. Woke up one day and it had vanished. The difference here being that I bought the key from a trusted site (not anymore) G2Play.com. While not an official key retailer, I've still bought from them in the past with no issues.

Don't be angry at Valve, they could have taken more action against your account but they didn't. The best advice I can give, is buying directly from Steam/trading for gift copies. Valve does not support key trading whatsoever, so that's all done at your own risk.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Did that incident regarding Dead Island happened like two years ago or so? There was a massive key leak for DI and Portal 2 back then, some of those were removed and some lucky ones still got to keep their copy. As for your Natural Selection 2 story, you might want to take a look at this

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah I remember reading about it. Not sure if it was related, but it did happen around the same time.

I also heard about the Natural Selection 2 keys, but mine was revoked long after it was announced and I bought it from a fairly reputable site. Really annoyed me because G2Play.com didn't do anything about it. I've avoided pretty much all non official key resellers since.

Did that other user maybe uninstall Skyrim?

Sorry, but some of Your message is dumb.

1) OP has the biggest right to play his games, so the other user will get kicked out of the game.
2) Uninstalling Skyrim? It's just dumb. One of them uses computer 1 and the other one computer 2. If the game gets uninstalled from computer 2, it'll still stay in computer 1.

BHTrellis188 was not speaking about present and at least in the past the family sharing did work exactly as described: If someone did play a game you were sharing, then you were unable to launch it until the first one did exit the game. So he said NOTHING wrong about that point, so there was no reason at all to be offensive ;-)

However, his second point (the one about uninstalling) has nothing to do with steam at all, if he did mean uninstalling by the definition of the word. If he just did try to say "remove from the library" instead of "uninstall" there, then its just wrong, because it is not how family sharing works (or did they change that in the past year? o_0)

There is a thread dealing with the topic somewhere around here so take a look- now you can remove other games too.
As I gathered, and I only took a quick look, you can also remove those who come from a 3 or 4 pack and were received as a gift, but don't hold me to it.
