OIC. That's why I don't play those kinda difficulty levels. I'm not fond of a challenge that frustrates me rather than stimulates me. I'm enjoying the game on n00b level, though. ;)

Keep in mind though, Ironman Mode is independent of normal difficulty levels.
It just limits you to one savegame and aggressive auto-saving.
I usually switch it on because otherwise I tend to give in to save-scumming too much. (Which is a good way to rob yourself of a real challenge, and thus also takes away part of the fun).

Not sure if joke, or actual mechanic. I should try that next time I play.

Same feeling in CK2s ironman mode, which is the only way to get achievements there. ("OMG! Why would my incompetent son murder me?!")
Didn't play XCOM on ironmode so I just reloaded ;P

My first (and one of the more memorable) rage moments was my first encounter with mutons, on my first playthrough.
Got my best assault injured badly because I moved him too far out, retreated him behind cover, moved my best support over to heal him from 1 to 4 health, so far so good.
And then I learned that mutons carry alien grenades and aren't afraid to use them. Assault killed immediately by the grenade from first muton, support followed after because she got stuck in the open and was easy prey for the second.
I ended that mission with only a rookie left :(

Dealing 3 damage at point blank rage against a Classic Difficulty Thin Man. With a shotgun. This happened to me a lot of times...I still don't know how that could happen...

got completely destroyed on Classic Ironman on Slingshot 3rd mission. whole squad wiped out in one turn, alt+f4, uninstalled.

I lost my highest rank heavy with psi abilities because he missed a 96% shot of a Muton and got killed the next turn. The Muton was the last alien left too.

I want to get Enemy Within expansion before replaying XCOM.
But my last memory of that game is the rage induced when there was single alien being shot by my 3 squad members, all missed. Next attack the alien struck my squad with acid bomb and all died.

NOBODY fucking cares if target is in his line of sight or not, I'm being shot through walls, cars and everything else, and I'm shooting through concrete walls, piles of boxes or damn train wagons. It's like freaking Matrix or something. I miss Silent Storm and since it's on Steam now, I guess I'm gonna get it and play until That Moment When The Game Was Ruined.

If your soldier has a little red alien head on his HUD when you select him, he can be shot at. Getting shot through a wall is a graphical glitch caused by how the game calculates firing animations.

One UFO mission, where pretty much the entire compliment hunkered together. Moved one guy forward to cover and out pops a Sectopod, a half dozen floaters, 4 mutons and 2 chryssalids.
I didn't want that squad anyway.

Just in case you're wondering, no, that is not the newest DLC. Rather, I am writing this damn topic because I'm more frustrated with XCOM than a man whose only chance to get laid is once in a thousand years.
So my rage is due to my XCOM Ironman Impossible game. My beautiful colonel Squad-sight snipers with Psi-abilities, gone, thanks to a Sectopod suddenly coming in a patrol. Sob* On the other hand, I caught that damn ethereal. Cost me my best snipers and sent my best support to the freaking ICU for 7 days too.
WHAT'S YOUR XCOM RAGE.
Also, i don't care what you say, Chryssalids are ----ing bs in Multiplayer.
