Hey there,

I just bought Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon for U play since I heard that even if you own it in steam you are supposed to use it with U play...

Now I created an U play account and installed the client - I know that there is a lot of hate about this platform and I currently wonder why. Havent noticed anything bad so far.

Beneath the fact that U play got already hacked once and passwords got stolen... I cant see the reason why ppl boycott this platform, but im curious what reaons you have, so please tell me.

:)

Kind regards

PS: I think compared to Origin its still a holy grail.

Unnecessary DRM stuffed down our throats, mostly. You know, like Origin. We all want them to be on Steam. I would honestly do the same if I were a game dev. Steam takes a nasty slice of the pie.

I suppose their DRM policy is pretty awful...

Steam takes the same cut that a brick and mortar store would take, less if you are a giant AAA publisher or dev.

I don't the point you're trying to make, but I will say that it doesn't change the fact that developers do not want to share their profit from their hard work. This will be why Minecraft will never be on Steam. They know they don't need Steam, so why share the money?

I myself have no problems with U Play, though Steam is superior in my mind.

I hated uplay because it was(still is kinda) clunky and you couldn't even add keys for games you own directly on your account through the app, and it's kinda confusing

Until the "recent" major update, now 2 months ago i think, it lacked same very important basic features, it arguably didn't look very good and most important of all, it was additional software that was "forced" on to us.
It got a lot better in terms of features, i think, i haven't used it in months to be honest..
But the biggest problem always was, and will continue to be, the fact that "we" already use Steam and don't really want more software like it, running alongside with steam.

People just hate it because it's not Steam, and because Ubi had some poor DRM policies in the past that they've since reversed.

Yes, Uplay is better now than it was in the past. Sadly, that's not saying too much, since it could still use a lot of improvement.

They've updated the client. Games now launch straight away. It's much nicer.

I wouldn't mind UPlay so much if it would actually let me play my games.
Every once in a while it decides I can't play my games, then I have to wait a couple days for it to work again.

Well I could ask you same question.. why you think Origin is bad?

I have several reasons why I hate Origin.

Origin has nothing to reward you for playing their games. No achievments, no points to collect and stuff...

Origin has so rarely any game on sale that you sometimes think they dont want to sell their games.

Everytime I start Origin my PC is stuck for like 10 seconds for no reason.

Origin has achievements which grant you points.

Origin has so many sales in which their biggest games are for less than 10$.

Origin starts up so quickly that you can't even notice it. I can start game instantly.

Dude, I never HATED on anything. Sad story is that I probably have more games on Origin than you have....So stop defending if there is no need.

As long as the damn thing works, i don't mind the added DRM from certain developers. Origin has never given me a problem, neither has Rockstar's Social Club. GFWL did give me an issue a few months ago. Wouldn't let me log into my account for about 3 weeks. That was annoying, and it seemed to have been something on their end, because a bunch of users had the same issue.

When something prevents you from playing your games if their service is down, yeah, that's bad.

Note that there's already 3rd version of their client (released few months ago) and it has many improvements. Previous releases were much less user-friendly, e.g. you had to download and install whole game to input your cd-key. Now you can do it just like on Steam. Also library is fixed too in newest version, now you can see all games (including Steam ones) activated on your Uplay acc.

You can't even freely edit your basic account information like username or email address, instead you have to get in touch with their support, and those guys are slow as hell and often give the same retarded copy-paste answers like our belove Steam support.

Also i don't like how their forums, ubishop and uplay look completely different, that's just confusing.

For my part it's the fact that each of the games I own that uses U-Play has it's own version of U-Play and not a centralized version like Steam or Origin. It's just a weird DRM and doesn't bring any advantage to the player..
