Do you ever play offline on steam because you're playing a game you don't want your friends to see?

No. Not really ashamed of what I play, and I usually keep the community status offline to avoid being pinged while playing.

Usually offline if I'm not free to chat/idling/suppress group announcements. Just "appear offline" though, which means Steam still tracks my gameplay time - I have almost no reason to use the de facto offline mode...

The only time I play offline is when I'm in a foul mood; I don't want to spread it to anyone else. :X
I don't care if people see what I am playing, regardless of what it is.

Nope. That's the whole point of Steam. For that 0.0001% chance someone will actually talk to you about that game.

I have no shame in playing shitty games and I regularly do play shitty games, it's like an addiction...
But I do play offline because of:
1-Unstable internet connection.
2-No internet connection.
3-Unstable electricity.
4-Not wanting to play online.

I have nothing to hide. My games are all awesome. :B But there were 2 times or more that I didn't want others to know that I'm currently online, but I also wanted to play a game, so I went offline. :P

Sometimes I do it with CS:GO, since people tend to spam invites.

I do it sometimes so that my friends don't see the amount of time I play games. Sometimes it gets over 70 hours, and that way no one can see me playing all the time unless they directly go on my profile. :c

Never done that ...
I dont see a reason to hide what game i am playing tbh . Nor any other reason to go offline in the first place .

Nope, the only reason I play in offline is no Internet connection, which used to happen quite often.

Like others here, I play offline a bit - more because I just don't feel like talking and don't want to seem rude by not replying, and some of my friends will message me and if I was honest "Don't feel like talking right now but I'll chat to you later", they would take it personally or assume something terrible was wrong and then spend the next hour asking "What's up?!" "Are you okay?" "Want to talk about it yet?" "Are you available now?", "Are you mad at me?!". This has happened to me a lot.

Sometimes I'm just not feeling social and need down time - especially after a busy or stressful day at work, and it's easier to play offline. I don't care if they see me playing some weird anime pseudo porn though

Because sometimes constant pop up message that "x is playing y" might be annoying, for example with my constant Skyrim crashes xD

I'm always in "offline for friends" mode, it's annoying to see all this "x is playing in" "x has got new announcement".

But I rarely use true offline mode, so when steam doesn't count playing hours.

Not loggind in steam friend list is better for me than changing settings to have the same effect (edit - I see that I can turn off announcements from friends, but not these stupid group announcements. So no, changing settings is not an option. Only way is to change steam skin to disable showing pop-up windows)

Besides I'm not really social animal, at some point I was without phone for 6 months, because my battery had died and I didn't want to buy new one :D

I sometimes play offline cuz if some of my friends see me playing a game rather than Dota or CSGO they start spamming and drive me crazy

Nah, never. I have no sense of shame whatsover when it comes to types of games/things I like.
I used to use offline mode a lot when I still felt shame about my procrastination though - looking at growing number of hours used to draw me crazy in "omg, I've played how many hours? D: now I'm feeling more guilty for not doing what I should've done and I can't excuse myself that I didn't had time to do it" way. Then I realized that refusing to be aware of a problem is not valid solution to a problem and is very childish thing to do.

Nowadays I'm mostly offline from chat, because most of the time I don't have enough strength to talk to people in real time :[ Oh, and I don't like notifications/messages, when I play.
