Hey! My job involves some downtime I can't do nothing about and I kinda wanna invest that time playing something rather than looking at the ceiling.

Anyhow I know I could use the time to learn Navajo or whatever, but I don't feel like.

So let's get to it.

Some things I thing it should have

  • Can be played without volume
  • Runs in a mediocre i3 laptop with integrated GPU
  • Not Diablo-like levels of clicking (I don't want everyone to hate me) so no crazy APM games here.
  • Can be paused at any time or maybe turn-based
  • Can be played with KB+M

I think that should mostly ccover it, I dunno if I forgot anything, anyways. Thanks a lot!

Card and board games (if you don't mind that kinda stuff)

Paradox Grand Strategy (EU4, CK2, HOI4, ....) or a older Total War (Empire, Napoleon or Rome 1).

You could also try AoE, Empire Earth or SW: Empire at War.

Aside from games that were already mentioned, I can think of several games that can be played easily. All of these should be able to be played on windowed mode without any lags.

Knights of Pen & Paper series - A good one for people who would like to enjoy a throwback to the olden days of tabletop RPG. It's a bit of a grind though. Turn based, so no need to pause at all.

Half Minute Hero - It's hard to describe this game. Best to watch a video for this. The game's basically a speedrun and can be easily picked up. Just in case you decided to buy it, buy the second game instead on Steam. You will get both the first and the second game.

Gunpoint - Stealth puzzle game, easily pausable.

Hotline Miami series and Retro City Rampage DX shouldn't take too much resources, but not sure if it's easily pausable.

  • Stronghold Crusader HD (RTS with Castle Builder Mode)
  • Worms Armageddon
  • The Long Dark (If You're running Intel HD 4000 or better).
  • Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey (Scrabble meets RPG?)
  • The Sims 3 (HD 2500+ should run it on low with low resolution)(Not personally tested).
  • Starcraft 2 (HD 2500+ should run it on low with low resolution)(Not personally tested).
  • Skyrim (HD 3000+ Should run it on low with low resolution)(Not personally tested).
  • Mount&Blade Warband
  • Pixel Piracy (Will likely get laggy as hell as you progress and have larger battles, but can be enjoyable for a decent amount of time, or if you limit your expansion)

Since it hasn't been named, it must be done! You can't go wrong with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. It meets all of these requirements.

Hmm...I like Talisman:Digital Edition because it's low impact on a machine and it can be paused without breaking concentration, you don't need to try to remember what you were doing or whose turn it was even if you're away for hours.

TIS-100 would be good if you want to tear your hair out trying to get your machine to output 1 instead of 0. In all honesty it is fun for a bit, but it will get difficult. Papers please probably wouldn't be all too bad either. One last suggestion is any type of online CCG. My favorite right now is Duelyst, which I'm pretty sure is in open beta, but I may be wrong. Anyway, those are my suggestions!
