There's barely any fuss over it unlike Epic but timed exclusivity for GOG releases isn't all that uncommon. The fact it isn't available elsewhere suggests that GOG were involved in bringing these releases up to date.

So all the rumors were true, even Konami Collector's Series: Castlevania & Contra. Cool. One would expect some more hype for all these releases, but this is Konami. I can't think of any company on any field that cares less.

Holy crap, that's nice. I've been feverishly searching for a PS1 copy of MGS for awhile now. Glad I can play it on the PC instead!

You will be better off emulating a PSOne version, this one is just a fixed PC port from 2000s with 1024x768 as the max resolution, no vibration (thus they cut the iconic Psycho Mantis monologue), and a save anywhere feature that makes Mei Ling useless and you will miss most if not all of her dialogues with Snake.

You never expected a re-release that nor adds, changes or improves absolutely nothing to the decades old games? And that all the work to make them work properly on modern pcs was done by a different company (GOG) and not Konami itself? Because that's exactly what I would expect from Konami. GOG more than likely had to beg them for years just to get the opportunity to make the games work themselves while giving this trash company money in the process.

If GOG made it there is absolutely no chance this would be on Steam...

You'll be waiting a while. Modern Konami likes to start out slow, then peter out.

Probably done at this time to start to build interest and hype around the remake of MGS.

Just read that we should be getting 3 and 4 on pc soon too.

Temped to pick it up but at the same time this has been playable on emulators for a long time I'd imagine

I'd like to see 3 and 4 (and Peace Walker for that matter) get ported, but I'm not holding my breath seeing how 1 and 2 appear to be the same ports as back in the day with some very minor tweaks. I wouldn't even mind if 3 and PW were just straight ports from the HD Collection, but I'm afraid even that is too much effort for modern Konami.

Konami still doing games?!!
they ruined MGS and forced Kojima out
they refused to do anything with castlevania and forced Koji Igarashi out
not to mention Silent hill and contra
all they do is re-release PES every year to be a bigger tool than EA

I was excited at first, but it seems the only proper new port out of this so-called collection is the original Metal Gear. MGS1 and MGS2 are the original PC ports from early 2000s (supposedly with community fixes integrated), the former I wouldn't recommend to anyone (play the PSOne release or even the GameCube remake if you're a sucker for graphics), the latter was originally a great port, so no complaints.

Overall, another lazy attempt from Konami to make some cash. Instead of making proper PC ports all they did was hiring GOG known for repackaging old games with community fixes or DOSBox emulator into installers so that they can be sold again with little to no effort from the developers.

Regarding MGS3 and 4 - I'll believe it when I'll see it. The actual listings for PC that were known beforehand turned out to be exactly those that got released on GOG. The rest are unconfirmed rumors. I'm especially skeptical about MGS4, as there's a lot in it that must be cut or changed for a PC release, as it talks too much about the PS3 hardware throughout the game.

As for the MGS1 remake, honestly, as a huge Metal Gear fan, I don't want it and don't understand why anyone would. It will most probably be made by a 3rd-party studio, not Kojima Productions. And if someone expects a 3rd-party studio to make things right that GameCube remake did wrong, they should get ready to be disappointed. The Twin Snakes, will all of its flaws (which are pretty minor, in my opinion), is the best remake MGS1 will ever see, do we really need another one that will be worse just with better graphics? :\

Yes, totally agree.

Have you played The Twin Snakes? It's a really nice way to re-experience MGS1 in a new way. I had my prejudice about it until I actually played it. It's been re-translated to make it more accurate (Jeremy Blaustein, while his text in the original sounds great and smooth, changed some parts way too much. I disagree with the concept of localization that aims to "improve" the original work, I'm all for the accurate translation that preserves the author's style and vision), completely re-voiced by mostly the same actors to improve the sound sample quality (something that will never be done for the new remake, I'm sure). The results are somewhat questionable, but compared to modern remakes Twin Snakes was treated with an extreme amount of love and care. The gameplay is as great as ever with the MGS2-style graphics. Over-the-top cutscenes looked out of place compared to the original back in the days, but compared to sequels they no longer stand out that much. :P The only thing I'm really bitter about is the removal of the Enclosure track from the OST.

That being said, the PSOne version will always be the best. ♡

I also pretty much ignored it for years, but having played it I can say I enjoy playing it even more than the original these days. Maybe because I played the original way too many times, haha. It's possible to make it run in proper widescreen (unofficially), it's in 60 fps, looks and plays amazing with pretty much nothing intact in terms of gameplay. And those things I thought I would dislike this remake for (re-directed cutscenes and rerecorded voices) ended up bothering me much less than I thought they would (if at all). I think even with all those changes, for better or for worse, I doubt we will ever get a remake that can recreate the original MGS1 experience as close to the source material as The Twin Snakes actually did.

If I recall, GoG has around half a year of exclusivity for this kind of deals because they often do additional work to make these games playable, or do licensing research etc.
